that actually fits really really well. I was kinda disappointed that I was going to have to get a white prime repaint in order to get skywarp, but that doesn't look bad at all. might have to follow your lead.

I had thought of maybe trying to bash a trailer armor for him but this really works too.

Well, I am planning on bashing a trailer/armor for him. IT does look like you have actually made some physical modifications to the torso itself, correct me if I am wrong. One problem I do notice is that the cylinders on the sides of his lemet will not allow the head to fit in its cavity.

Actually, they don't look like they're any bigger, than the original antenna fins they'll be replacing.

Looks cool. Can't wait to see this in plastic.

Nice - I'd like to see this work too. I do see a couple of potential flaws, though. The main one is that in order to fit the smokestacks on his back, unless you intend to make some mods in that area, you'll need the vane mounted on his back (flat side upward, by the way), which means he won't be able to use his rifle. The picture you have there has him holding the rifle while the vane is still clearly on his back.

Wow. Also one of the many that want to see if this works. If it does, I may go the same route. (getting the Target Magnus/Warp two-pack)

Good luck to you. :)

My suggestion to you is, if this is the rout you are going, to use an Optimus Prime model for this build, not a 2-pack Ultra Magnus. Leave that figure alone so it doesn’t get runied.
Another reason is because your design has a lot of red and blue in robot mode and those are in high wear areas. The white is only on the truck shell, and not that high wear so it will be better to use a bot with an already red torso and paint the appropriaate areas white.

That's actually a good idea. The highest wear spots on this mold, are the shoulders, and the areas around the back of the torso where the shoulders pivot back to transform. Either figure will require you to paint the shoulders, but Prime will need a lot less paint on the torso.

You could also mix and match parts from both. You wouldn't have to paint the cab roof, if you used the one off Magnus. It would also give you a white fairing rifle.

Yes, but once again, if you screw up, you have not just ruined two figures, but also a boxed set. By using only the Optimus figure, if you screw up, you still hae a perfect boxed set and can simply go out and get another Optimus. you aren’t left with a broken set.

the box set isn't supposed to be all that expensive if i remeber. By two and sell the xtra skywarp on ebay. Many are only buying the set for him anyway.

I may have to try this too. just looks to sweet to pass up. Assuming they ever get here. still looking for grimlock myself and don't want to pay shipping.

If they have to make Magnus from Prime repaints, THAT would be the way to do it right.

Awesome.

I thought of doing something like this myself and was just about to go pick up prime today Im not even bothering with the Magnus/Skywarp Two pack I already made my own Skywarp so doing Magnus will be simple.

I think I know how he plans on mounting the stack gun to the shoulders too

I thought the stack guns already mount on there own in bot mode. haven't played with mine lately so I'd have to check. Also the prime mode can probably hold the g1 magnus or prime gun. All the other figures so far have been able to hold there counterpart guns to my knowlege. I've only tried starscream and hotrod myself. Starscream also look pretty interesting wearing masterpeice starsream guns and missles.

On this I have to disagree whole-heartedly since without his armor, G1 Ultra Magnus is a white Prime, always has been. That is why I am going to make a trailer/armor for mine once I get him.

I think what he is saying, is if they are not going to make a Ultra trailer, if they are only going to release a repainted prime, that he likes this more because many people out there are not going to be making home made trailer armor. I'm sure we would all like to see that first and foremost. But if they are only releasing a cab repaint for him, the all white cab repaint is pretty lame on its own. Thats why I wouldn't worry about screwing up my "set" because really, the all white cab would be dumped in my parts bin anyways because... I don't have time to deal with making a whole new trailer for him

Has anybody ever accused you of being overly anal about G1?

Yeah, thats pretty much what I meant... thank you.

And yes, I caught the "I can't deal with that now." reference... hehehe, cute. ;)

Tried it myself Saturday. Doesn't have a long enough peg on it for the prime mold to hold. Maybe mold it and add a longer peg or trim down the stock a little so he can hold it straight.

thanks tramp, i really appreciate the fact that you think i don't know what i'm doing. i don't guess we can all be as good as you...

i had already planned on part swapping to save on painting, not because i'd "mess up". i try to work smarter, not harder. i'm also aware that if i paint the top and back of his shoulders blue, it would have showed up, the mock up was that, a plan, not the finished copy.

i know that you can't make the new ears/pipes longer then the space available, thanks.

um to me is "ultra" because that's his name, not because he joins with his trailer. he wasn't ever-just magnus in the story till dreamwave. just like op was never just optimus or prime until he joined with his trailer(pm,rid, armada, cybertron). so call him what you want, he's um to me.

for the stacks, i planed on adding a peg to the gun and stick it in the screw hole. how it attaches in truck mode is the holes on the forearms, not the screw holes. but everything i have is to big/small, does anyone have some styrene tubing that fits snug? i could really use a piece.

I forgot to mention that I removed the rounded detail on his upper arms up to the area where the peg hole is so just the square detail is still there, with the round pipe gone It can hold Magnus's gun

I never said you didn't know what you are doing, nor implied it. Even the best mess up from time to time. That is why, as a rule, I never kitbash my only copy of a figure. My advice was not to use the Ultra Magnus model at all, and just use a Prime model for the bash. That way, you aren't left with an extra Skywarp laying around. It is obviously too late now.

As far as his name goes, Ultra Magnus is Ultra Magnus regardless of whether he is in or out of his armor, Dreamwave didn't change that. All they did is show what Ultra Magnus looked like under his armor for the first time since the original G1 toy came out, something the cartoon omitted, but didn't contradict. But that is a debate for another time and place, and has nothing to do with your bash.
