Classics Sideswipe

Like many I was disappointed at seeing Hot Rod in Classics and not the other, more deserving Diaclone era cars. So, I turned a spare Roddy into Sideswipe. I'm pleased with the results.

Forgive the terrible pic, Remy I am not. I will take more and add some car mode shots when I get home from work.

Good idea! You're right, I would love to see more G1 autobot cars released in the classics line. Would the head from alt. Sideswipe fit on this or would it be too big?
Anyways, nice work!

Alt Sideswipes head would be way to big for the Hotrod mold. He has the smallest head of all the classics i think.

Actually, I think Mirage's is smaller, but, yes, he does have a pretty small head compared to most of the others. Regardless, this custom does look pretty sweet, though you could have modded the helmet a little more to make it look more like Sidswipe's.

Well, given thateven though they share similar car modes, Sunstreaker's transformation is radically different than Sideswipe's, and more like Bumblebee's in that the front end of the car becomes his feet and legs, while the hood becomes the chest. A better choice would be to do Red Alert since he not only shares the same car mode, but transformation and appearance in robot mode (except for color).

If i remember correctly Hasbro was talking about having another two molds eventually. I'm hoping for a prowl and insecticon shrapnel myself. One we need mor Decepticons in my opinion and I just love shrapnel. two if they do a prowl we or hasbro has 3 repaints right off the bat.

This sidswipe looks sweet. I never would have come up with that one. Great work.

Thank you for the kind words everyone! Praise from the experts carries much weight indeed. Here are some more shots including the modified car mode:

Kick arse! Nice idea removing the spoiler. I've been considering doing the same thing for a while, but I wasn't sure who it'd wind up as. Actually, I was heading toward Jackpot, myself.
Did you fill in the gaps at the back from taking the spoiler out, or did you leave the pieces on and just cut the spoiler off?
And how did you fit the launcher? Do you plan to mod a new missile for it?

This is one kick-ass piece of work, but the beard/chin is a bit too prominent...

Thank you all. Ramrider I cut the spoiler off and left the rotating bits. If they are removed entirely the legs won't have anywhere to peg in place in car mode.

I agree the beard is prominent but eh, for a quick bash its close enough for me.

Wow amazing job man simply amazing. I had heard people make reference to planning to do this for quite a while and I probably would have if I hadn't been so busy with Bruticus, and Superion tried one myself. The only thing I would have done different is I'd of left the side pipes silver, or I'd of painted them silver chrome. The black on the side pipes is just a little odd. Aside from that you really did a great job.

noticing the lack on needed paint aps, i wonder if we'll se a figure like this in the botcon set this year. The club has said it will be 4 deluxes and 1 voyager form the classics line. They usually do one to two new headsculpts, so who knows.

I do a have a question though. Did you paint the entire figure red or just remove the flame decals? reason I ask is it looks reder than I'm used too but it could easily just be my monitor.

I'm guessing he removed the flames since the spot where the engine block used to be doesn't match color wize. If he had repainted the whole thing, it would.

Not necessarily, I’ve had paint look different on different surfaces myself. My bat mobile for example looks like it has two shades of black on the shoulders, when it’s the same black on white styrene and grey sculpty. Why it came out that way I’ll never know.

not that i don't agree with your guess. obviously there's a lot of color diffrence their.

Yes Loqi and Jim I simply removed the flames with rubbing alcohol. The deep red was tough to match so I just painted the 'collar' twice & left it alone. It was meant to be a quick bash so I didn't bother trying to get a better match there.

I'm glad everyone likes it. High praise from this community means a lot to me indeed and keeps me inspired to keep posting work. We could see a figure like this at Botcon, but without fairly involved remoldng (engine, wing, head at least) I doubt it will happen.

And just in case anyone remembers, I'm still hard at work on the DeLorean scratchbuild, but the final details are soooo time-consuming.
