Hello all. Been awhile hasn't it?

Well I just spent the last week woopin' this Bad boy up.

I wanted to try something new I noticed through mistakes. Dyed parts bleed through paint half the time when you apply paint details. First I dyed the hands black, sanded down the surface to leave dye in the cracks only, painted it purple and the dye bled through. Not only does it give it that nice shadow detail but it keeps me from having to paint the articulation in the bends and ball sockets for the fingers.

Next time I'm ganna do the same effect to the other parts that get painted purple. I'm also ganna make a white version the second time around because although the Krylon Chrome looks nice it also streaks easy and you don't want crome to streak on a black surface.

I'll show alt mode pics when all the paint detailing is done and paint touch ups have been made.

For now. Enjoy.

looks great.

ive had a few breaks on my mp starscream since i had him and wanted to paint him to cover up all the repair marks, i found a way to stop the wings breaking but it was a bit late lol
are there any dificult areas when your painting him, the bit where the feet rotate round looks like it could be a problem

Nice to see more from you TFMaster!
I'd need to practice on dye techniques 'cause the results are obvious.
That is very good work! I guess it is because of the flash that the purple looks more like light blue...
Where could I find more info on techniques and products to use?

Yes, it could but there are ways around this.

Sand the main area a little so that when you add your paint aps all the paint is doing is re-leveling the surface.

Second...I took apart the foot and the part that is black was dyed black so that there is no paint to scrape/chip.

I try not to paint any articulated areas these days if I don't have to and I noticed that most of the jointed areas are usually shadowed so why not just dye them black to prevent paint rubs?

I like it. IMO the purple could be a little darker though. Looks kinda girlish purple. Though still a very nice job.---I don't think I'd have the balls to paint an expensive figure...unless it were clearanced, or I was a millionaire.

its the first ive seen dyed i think, definatly the way to go, unless there was some way of putting a washer under the ancle to stop it rubbing but i havent taken him apart yet (update: just checked its not screwed on, but could loosen the swivel bit maybe)
ive looked into mixing paint and super glue which kinda works but its hard to get a smooth coat of paint

did anyone see this one go on ebay, the ancle's on this one have ruined it, you can see the paint chipping while he takes pictures

Its a shame. It looks good, but yeah if you look close you see the paint chipping in certain areas.

Have you tried just applying superglue over paint? I've started doing that on areas like painted weapon handles, and it seems to do the job. I've got a Loctite brush-on glue that goes on really easily, and doesn't seem to have that whitening problem that you so often get.

I took time to read thru the forums ,used the useless search function and I did not find anything I wanted to know about dye techniques. Unless it's not in the good thread I have no idea why TFM answered me this way.
