I like black starscream. Kinda looks like a cross between sunstorm and starscream. Black with gold chest. NICE!

I really love how evenly you got the gold paint onto it. Did you spray it on, or is it brushwork? 'Cause if it's brushwork...holy HELL, man.
I would've gone with the reissue Black Starscream look because I'm a stickler for staying close to official color schemes, but yours looks just as good, if not better.

thanks. its all done with a brush. 3 coats of really thin, light, long strokes.

You got paint that smooth, with a brush?
I officially hate you.
Or maybe, I'm just jealous.

if it makes you feel any better, these are the largest paint aps that I've done by brush and gotten to look so smooth. normally an area that big I'd mask off and spray. Superquad7 uses a brush for everything he does, even those alternators.. I hope to graduate to that someday.

I would have left the canopy orange, but other then that he's perfect, paint work is amazing, and the color choices work so well together. You gonna stick with Black Starscream as the name or make him a separate character?

Getting a smooth paintlob using a brush isn't that hard. I hand paint all my work using a brush as well since I can't use my airbrush because of my Grandmother's emphasema. As long as you have the right brushes, and the right kind of paint, you shouldn't get streaks or visible brush strokes in the final piece. Most of your acrylic model paints are extremely fluid and thus don't leave brush storkes behind. And the proper brushes (I use red sable hair brushes) are soft, which alkso cuts down on any tell-tale brush strokes being left behind.

I do really like the work on this, even though I've never quite understood the fascination with things like variant paintjobs on characters. Unless they actually have some kind of backstory, that is. I'm particularly impressed with the gold. I can usually get smooth paintjobs with most colours with a brush, but gold always covers unevenly for some reason.
I'm surprised, though, that you stuck with the Skywarp markings in a different colour. Would it not have suited better to have emulated the Starscream markings in silver or gold?

it probably would have, and I did think about it... but I just really like this particular wing pattern *L* I dont' really like starscream's and how it makes his wings look almost solid red in robot mode. If I'd have gone a different route, I'd probably have gone more G1ish.
As for the canopy, I wasn't going to keep it orange, as neither iteration of the character had an orange canopy, both were black.

I would have prefered if they would have used this color scheme for Sunstorm instead of the yellow gold them. Badder
He would've have been called Blackstorm?
Anyhoo, nice paint job!
