Classics Thrust FINISHED

Well I was bored tonight and decided to finish him up. Overall, I'm pleased with the way he came out. As you can see, I caved on the idea of his wings on his legs. Yes, it was more toon accurate, but thanks to mass shifting, I couldn't get it to look right. The shoulders came out just as well. No faction symbols yet, I'm going to put some on, just not sure where. I think they are supposed to be on his turbofan housings.

If you read the WIP thread, you'll know I was using mostly vinly dye on him. The red is Mar-Hyde Flame Red and the black is Mar-Hyde Jet Black. While I like the colors, I was having some serious issues with the denser plastic pieces. They just didn't want to take, I don't know if this was from a different batch of plastic or if the temp in my basement had anything to do with it. All I know is that it was annoying.

The wings were a pain to work with. They look cool, but where the main wing mounts to the old Ramjet upper wing thingys was really hard to keep together. He has to be transformed with the utmost care. I must have broke the wings (front and rear) about 8 times while working with him and not paying attention. There is a pic at the end that shows a splice I added to beef up the wings. Its on the bottom so you can't notice it anyways. You'll also see the dye not taking to where the wing pops into the body.

I might add a few other details here and there, but I like to keep it simple like my other seekers.

Enough jibba jabba, hope you like him.

Definately a nice job. My suggestion as far as the little plastic supports go is to simply paint them with a matching paint. They aren't parts that are likely to get scratched anyway. As for the faction symbol(s) I would suggest simply putting the rub sign back on either on the vector thrust turbine housing, in front of the turbine, or on the fuselage behind the intake.

I wasn't terribly bothered by the wings being in the cartoon/comic orientation, but I think having them on his back works better. I love the paint job on him too. I agree with Tramp about the supports; that's the only feature that really sticks out.

Yeah, the wings on the back is far better. As for the symbols, personally I've put the rubsigns on the top of the air intake (where IIRC they were placed on the G1 versions too), and put a Reprolabel symbol on one shoulder (or you could do both).

Either way, the important part is... Nice. 8)
What are you doing about the weapons?

Don't have any, and I don't have any for any of my other seekers. I absolutely hate the weapons that came with them and I just haven't sat down to make new ones yet.

Thanks for the compliments everyone

I would have stayed with the wings on the legs it looked better and maybe make the thrustor housing slightly smaller or add somethin on in the front to make it more aerodynamic the flat front would cause to much wind resistance... but you inspired me to make one in the same fashion... at this rate i'll never get any customs posted

That is beautiful. I want one now.

Very sexy. Lets see if yours beats the upcoming BotCon exclusive.

Well, he does look much more menacing with the wings up. (WINGS UP!) but doesn't your transformation allow him to theoretically have them down if you wanted them? (maybe only if they were angled back behind his feet, but it looks possible) That would seem to be a cool compromise that you can do either one.

Are you going to add any other colors to him, like white or silver? I think he could do with another color, even if it's a monochromatic greyscale one, and he only has one real color. (other than his eyes... and his faction symbols)

You might want to sand down those support areas before you paint over them, if you decide to. (maybe that's common sense. I've never done it)

Are you thinking about adding the red white stripe as a extra

If I had put fans on the underside of the housings, I would say its possible, but I ended up not doing that because I'm lazy.

I might add some yellow on the shoulder intake thingys and some silver to the chest, legs, and feet.

Right before I wrote this, I was transforming him and broke the wing again. I'm going to beef up the supports again and then repaint them.

Maybe, I haven't decided yet.

I think the idea that a whole turbine could be fit into a wing is a bigger realism problem than the aerodynamics, but you're right in that compared to the original toy, mine are a little more edgy.

Boggs, if you really want to strngthen the wings, you should put the supports inside the wings, not on the outside. Drill a hole in each piece where they are going to be joined, making sure they line up, and insert a metal rod into the hole on one piece, glue it in place, then apply some glue to the other and fit them together with the other end of the pin fitting in the hole in the other piece. That wills create a much stronger bond. Do that with both wings.

Yeah, an internal support brace is going to hold up much better in the long run.

True that. Also, if you scuff up the metal pin, or file little notches in it, the glue will hold onto it much better than leaving it all shiny and smooth.
