Classics Grimlock... (update w/ pics of latest custom)

Here's Classics Grimlock! Grimlock was one of my favorite G1 characters. My most memorable childhood G1 toys were Powermaster OP and old Grimmy. Now that I'm into repainting figures, I decided to do Classics Grimlock.

This repaint is special for me 'coz its the first one that I used automotive primer on. It's just amazing! It makes the paint job so sturdy and leaves me wondering why I was too lazy to try it out before. :P

After coating with grey auto primer, I basecoated him with gloss black automotive paint. I then did multiple layers of drybrushing using Tamiya Acrylic gunmetal, metallic grey, flat aluminum, and titanium silver -- just like my ironhide. Gold parts were covered with clear yellow, and details were added using copper and red.

Without further ado, here he is. I hope you like him! Comments and suggestions are very welcome.

Very nice, metallics really work with this figure. The only suggestion that I would make would be to reverse the shoulder assemblies so that the screws face backwards in robot mode, although if you prefer them this way or are worried about scratching the paint work disassembling (and knocking out pins) at this stage then fair enough. If you're interested then you can find a stage by stage instruction for this mod in the Classics Minor Mods thread.

Thanks guys!

Yes I have seen the "reverse the shoulders mod", but to be honest I was scared to do it on my Grimlock. I've had really bad experiences knocking out pins before. Thanks for the input, though. I'm considerin doing this mod for the Grimlock commissions that some people are asking me to do. Hahah!

Great paint work!!!

IMO I prefer your solution of just painting the screw holes a dark flat (I assume) black. Makes him look industrial.

Massive props! Now that I've seen this I may try a similar paint job. He'd look great next to my Megs, which is done in a similar manner.

Thanks! I'm glad you like it! :D

Well it does add detail to his otherwise bare shoulders. The thing is, if you switch the shoulders, the screwholes will show up in alt mode. So you will have to decide which mode the screwholes blend in better with.

Goodluck with your Grimmy. I'd also like to try this on a Classics Megs if I had one. I'm going to look for a bootleg to save some money.

Very nice! I love how the metal looks! It has a darker sturdier feel to him like he's almost indestructible! :D

Thanks! That's exactly what I was going for. The original gray plastic did not fit Grimmy's intimidating character.

That is so amazing! He looks MEAN! I may do that to mine. Unfortunately I have the Henkei one, only cos it worked out cheaper than the original Classics so I suppose I'll have to rub of the chrome.

About the holes on his shoulders. How about filling them with something and either sanding them level or molding them into rocket launchers? Although you prob don't want to do anything to him now!
