Kitbasher looking for a little knowledge/help..

after what has been quite a hard year or so ive found myself with many great ideas for mods repaints and kitbashes.. which is awesome.. as its a nice change from creative blocks..
for christmas i recieved a rotary tool with a 40pc tool kit
which is also awesome..
but.. i have hit a wall.. of sorts..
...i have no idea how to use it..
ive read Jin's guide on his site but i was wondering if any of you had any guides or advice of your own that you could impart on someone like me.. who has never in his life used a rotary tool.
one kitbash in particular that i have in mind involves alot of cutting and remodelling of Energon Hot Shot's legs, arms, and head/neck..
any help any of you could give me would be very much appreciated
