parts size change?

An idea occurred to me involving the idea of changing the size of a particular part from one figure scale to fit another. Personaly I have no clue how something like that could be accomplished, but I have seen the parts casting tutorial on Sector70, so I wondered if there was some other casting method that would allow said cast to be shrunk or expanded?

My apologies if the idea is beyond impossible for anyone to come up with an answer for it, but I figured I'd throw it out there and see what you guys thought.

Only method that I'm aware of is the one known in the moulding industry as rapid prototyping. A 3D model of an actual object is scanned into the computer or a 3D model is created in the computer and can then be produced at the desired size by the use of lasers on photosensative resin. The process is time consuming and costly. No idea how it could be done on a modest kitbashing budget though.

There's also a method used to make older plastic models. Basically it's called Pantographing - the original model is effectively traced by a machine, which carves a 1/2 size version into the mold.
