Custom Cannon for MP Megs

I have never really done a major custom job before, just paint alterations, G1 repairs and fixes for some messed up Universe transformers.
I am wanting to get a G1 (or reissue) Megatron scope and modify it to fit onto the socket on MP Megs arm so he is not 'overcompensating' so much. Has anyone already tried this? If not, do any of you skilled customisers know how best to do this mod?
