TFA Optimus Prime trailer from scratch

I was dissatisfied with the halfhearted "fire truck" attachment for the TFA voyager-class Optimus Prime. Inspired by what I'd seen here in the forums, I decided to try and build one for myself. I based the trailer very heavily on the one you see for a few frames here and there in the "Headmaster" episode of the cartoon. I made a few slight modifications to it as a nod to G1 Prime's trailer design.

The wheels are from a generic cement mixer toy I found in a bin at a thrift store. Everything else is built from sheet styrene from a hobby shop.

The front of the trailer has pegs like the fire truck/axe to connect to the cab's back, and the feet slide into a recess on the underside:

The inside of the trailer is limited due to the foot notch, but there are a few deluxe figures that fit. Blurr, Jazz, and Bumblebee can all go for rides in the trailer. I tried Lockdown too, but his wheel spikes make him slightly too wide.

With the trailer attached, Prime's alt mode is the same size as leader-class Ultra Magnus. It doesn't split in half or have a repair bay or TFA Roller, sadly. I'd love to rapid prototype the model and airbrush it, but then I'd be out of money for collecting. In the mean time, this looks very nice with Prime on my shelf!

that is cool. hey you can have a base mode for a trailer if you make him that one trailer we all see when they are fixing and picking up the mess near the free-way. that is cool. keep up the good work.

um what kind of paint did you use and also do all hobby shops sell styrene sheets? ah and that is cool. will you be doing another one?

I used Tamiya acrylic paints, although since doing this project I've found I prefer Testors' Model Master. As for finding the styrene, I can't speak for all hobby shops, but my guess is that if you have a local shop that deals in model trains, there's a good chance.

I'm currently working on a kitbash with a pretty significant scratch-built element to the new alt mode. I'll post it sooner or later :D

As a fan of TFA, this is just super cool. Great work on keeping the trailer consistent with the Animated style.

I appreciate the offer, but between my own fondness for it and lingering doubts about things I could have done better, I don't think I could part with it.
