PLEASE HELP ME PRESERVE MY BTs!

First of all I apologise in advance if I've posted this in the wrong place. Mods, please move/delete if necessary!
I'm looking for some help preserving my most prized possessions: my Binaltech Transformers. I've been collecting them since they first appeared on the scene (yeah i know that's like 4 years ago or something and I still haven't got them all!) and despite my best efforts to keep them mint over time several have got damaged. Most recently while i was (very carefully) moving my BTs (new bedroom) I noticed that my Yellow Tracks toy has lost some of his paint. Now the very annoying thing is that I NEVER opened yellow Tracks. I assume Takara have used some very cheap paint for his body work and tiny movements within the box have rubbed some of the paint off.
Upon inspecting some of my other BTs (again some of which are never opened) it looks like some are heading the same way! So this is something of a plea: help me preserve these awesome toys. I know there are loads of you out there do awesome customs and repaints and would know a thing or two about sealing paint. Should I be applying some kind of lacquer or varnish? Or will that destroy the finish?
