Beast Wars Repaints!
Posted: Mon Aug 03, 2009 9:35 pmI really love the Beast Wars toy line. They're remarkably posable, a big step up from the G1 toys I grew up with. Also, they (mostly) look like the characters on the show! Right now I've got the show characters only on display, most of which I picked up after the fact (I just got Tigatron, so he's still in factory paint. Rampage is still in storage, and I have plans make him more show-accurate...). These were the first figures I accuratized, and it shows! Almost all of them have received paint apps to one degree or another, but these five are the most worked on:
Airazor
Airazor received a little Orange to the torso, Orange and Silver to the face, Gray to the wings and bird head, and Steel to the beak and claws.
Rattrap
Rattrap is actually a KO (Finding a real RT has been impossible). Pretty much everything you see has been repainted. Mouse body is Gray, Tail and feet are Pink, Claws, nose and pupils are black. Eyes are white with just a touch of Pink. Mouth is Red with White teeth. Robot arms, legs, gun and head are Brown with Silver details. Robot eyes and mouth are Red with White teeth.
Rhinox
Rhinox started out as the "Fox Kids" redeco (Bleh!). The green parts of his arms, legs, torso and head received a coat of Green Zinc Chromate, then Green. Robot toes were painted Steel. Head and chest received Gold details, Eyes are Red. Teeth are white. I disassembled the Chaingun O' Doom, reworking it to be more show-accurate, then painted the green portions as before. Everything else is Aluminum. Rhino parts are Leather. Horns and toes are a custom Tan/Brown mix. Eyes are White, tinted with a hint of Tan, with Brown pupils. Teeth are White. One of these days the rhino form will get a light Burn Umber wash...
Terrorsaur
I painted Terrorsaur's beast parts, lower legs and forearms Red. Claws and beak are Orange. Teeth are White. Eyes are Purple, with Black pupils. I also painted the Purple stripes on the neck of the beast mode, though you can't really see it.
Fists, arms and legs are Black, with Steel and Red highlights. Lower legs have Silver details. The robot head is Red, the face is White with Red Eyes. The gun I painted Engine Gray and Red.
Waspinator
Waspinator was the God-awful ugly Fox Kids redeco. I used the same procedure to paint the green as I did for Rhinox, only this time I used Yellow Zinc Chromate. The abdomen, legs and gun were striped Yellow and Black (I tried Gold and Black first, but it was too gaudy). Yellow details were also added to his arms and legs. His eyes, both robot and wasp, are Sky Blue. I also painted his robot mode antenna Black and Yellow, and his mandibles Gold. His wasp mandibles are Brown. The midsection of the robot chest is OD Green.
