Nice paint job. Did you use a sharpy for the flames outline?

Where is the power source for the lights?

I used a long bristled brush with %95 of its bristles cut off for the pinstripes. I tried the sharpie but had no luck.

The LEDs are wired into his internal batteries that power the mechalive feature.

That's some skillful brush work then!
What was wrong with the sharpy?

The sharpie stripes came out too thick and didn't look anywhere near as smooth as the brushed on stripes, I found it was very hard to achieve a point at the tip of the flame with the sharpie.

I also tried with a shorter brush but that didn't look much better. I saw a thread where Frenzy Rumble posted a pic of the brush he used for the stripes, I couldn't find the same brush but what I ended up with after cutting the bristles off was pretty close.

The long bristles do a very smooth line, they give you a bit of room for error.

I'll take a pic of my voyager prime that I practiced on when my cam batteries are charged.

ho... ly... crap.
the paint apps look awesome, but lighting is what's amazing. how did you get the blades to light up? it looks like there's light conducting material on the back?

I have 5 LEDs on the back of each blade. You can see them in the last pic of the first post. 5 is probably overkill, 3 would be enough.

Wow I really want to change the LED light up eyes of my Optimus prime revenge of the fallen. He just looks so much better with bluish light eyes not GREEN! What type of LEDs do you use? I wonder if there is a way to tint the led in his face mold to shine a different color. The swords don't look like an over kill, they look super deadly and the brightness of the blades look like molten metal indicating this is not a blade to come in contact with. Looks super hot and full of deathly energy. Great job.

any chance i could manipulate you into posting a pic of the brush you are talking about? Sounds like it could be handy to have around.

I tried painting the green LED with transparent blue paint, the eyes were blue but the paint cut the brightness right down. I ended up using a 3mm blue LED with a brightness rating of 5000mcd. You need to use a bright LED in the head to penetrate the transparent plastic in his eyes.

I bought 100 LEDs for $7 delivered from an ebay seller in Hong Kong, the seller's name is bestshop2008hk.

how did you switch the green head led with the blue

R Ranti, at the moment I have just been doing customs for my personal collection. I intend to do another Prime to be sold on ebay, depending how that goes I might start doing some commissions in the future.

Transman, I didn't switch the LEDs, Prime still has a fully working mechalive system. All my LEDs are on a separate circuit to the mechalive LEDs. You can fit 2 LEDs in there with some slight modifications to the inside of the head, its obvious which bit of plastic needs to be removed when you open up the head. I drilled a tiny hole in the back of the head to let the wires out.

Some peole have switched the head LEDs, but I wanted my LEDs to be able to stay on, instead of flashing when you press the button.

Mate, what paint do you use for the grey parts? Are they enamel or acrylics? Looks really real

The paints are enamels, a matt black base coat(revell no. 6) with a few layers of metallic silver drybrush (humbrol no. 191). The details parts are matt black base, heavy metallic bronze drybrush followed by a light metallic gold drybrush. They are Revell but I cant remember the numbers.

This one doesn't transfrom but I'm working on another one now that will.

That thing is incredible. Everthing about it is complete win, but that sword lighting is fantastic. That looks amazing. Good job doing the striping by hand-very nice.
