ROTF Sideways without LEDs

LED's are for poor people.

Which, in short, means that they are for people with skill. And balls.

Anyway, I now present my custom ROTF Sideways. He was-- Well, I'll let the pictures do the talking. Please note, though, that he still isn't finished for I have to give him a red Audi logo, his APR, silver stripes, and lastly, I'll need to go back and fix the crooked lines. Here's the link to the photobucket album, and because I'm not an asshole, here are the images themselves:

As you can see, silver paint is being a pain in the ass for me. I honestly believe that it's because I didn't thin the paint down enough, but I am open to suggestions and tips for future projects to ensure a more smooth paint job. Oddly enough, the black paint came out MUCH smoother than the silver...

Oh, and BTW, I am considering if I should coat with some Testor's semi-gloss... what do you guys think?

Thanks for reading/looking =P

(P.S. Once more, silver paint's a bitch.)

(P.S.S. Yes, this was my first time.)

(p.S.S.S. Yes, I also will take better pictures next time xD)

Nice work, and the thread title is a pissa!

I just started using Future floor polish as a clear coat, a lot of customizers swear by it. I used it on Prime (the thread is near the top of this forum), all his red and blue parts are straight future, for a full gloss finish. For the robot parts I mix the future with some acrylic clear flat base, 10 parts future to 1 part flat base gives a matte finish.

This stuff is incredibly strong, I also used it on a repainted slot car that is crashed regularly at high speed, the paint work is still 100% intact. I have cars painted with regular clear coat and they are a mess.

In the US its called Pledge with future shine, you can get it at most supermarkets. It has a different name in every country but you can get it where ever you are.

You should also consider getting a cheap tripod, it will do wonders for your pictures.

If you can drill a hole and solder a wire, you can LED your figures. I was hesitant at trying it but it's really not that hard. Just dont use a power drill, hold the bit in your fingers.

I wrote a tutorial on LEDs with about a million pictures if anyone wants to give it a go, here's the link:

http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-general-discussion/257815-led-photo-tutorial.html

The tutorial is for movie ratchet, he's quite hard compared to the others. Bumblebee is an easy one to start with, or ironhide - he doesn't require any drilling but you need to have the figure with the transparent headlights, some are painted over.

Hm, thanks for your words and the link. I may look into that Pledge stuff...

Hey, BTW, what can you recommend, if anything, for ensuring a smoother paint job? 'Cause honestly, painting that silver has made me sick of Sideways now xD

And oh, yeah, I know how to steady pictures and whatnot, I was just anxious to get some pics of him for I've been sitting on him for three days. Thanks, of course, though :P

I sprayed the base coat on my latest Prime, he looks much smoother than my others. I used a can of matte black spray paint then drybrushed the silver over that.

Good work! :)

This is a good example of how the details in the RotF Deluxe Sideways mold is great but needs some colour application to bring out the details for appreciation.

Love the paint application that actually shows the mold's details (gears and such) as opposed to Hasbro's crappy paint. :-?

Thanks!

I've taken immensely better shots here:

Light tents are for poor people.

And for those who can afford them.

Oxymoron, I know. Anyway, there's more but they aren't so good due to the setting sun and my untimeliness, so I'll just link one of 'em: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/LZSchneider/Transformers%20Sideways/DSCN1489.jpg

you should use him to recreate the scene where he jumped through the house in the ROTF. :-?

Ha, I should, but I enjoy the air conditioned home provided by my parents :P

Ha ha, that'd be funny... Anyway, well, I hope to paint more movie Transformers in the future, and perhaps another Sideways with less red painted windows and less visible brush strokes :P
