Heya team,

I've been putzing with these guys for the last few days...
Basically I think that Swerve looks more like how Sideswipe should, so I went the easy route with him...

He looks a bit more like a jock than a pretty boy, so I think I'm just gonna start calling this guy Sideswipe...

I did a semi-jin leg mod on him by removing the fender panels from his feet...just waiting on some more hoses and stuff for his legs...
Sideswipe into Sunstreaker makes more sense to me just due to the shape of the head and the more prominent "ears"...he looks good in yellow, and nothing says ego-maniacal homicidal maniac like a nice yellow paint job...


Again with the jin leg mod, but more complete with kibble...


I dunno...so far they make a great pair for the shelf...

Cool, nice to see Sunstreaker(my favourite of the brothers) get some RotF treatment.

The forest backdrop also makes me think of a famous scene in Ferris Bueller's Day Off when looking through the photos.

I dunno if anyone pointed this out yet or not, but if you take off SS's head you will see this plastic nub sticking up out of the base right behind his head. I'm not sure what the purpose of this nub is other than to limit poseability of the head. I took a dremel to the nubs on both figures, and ta-daa! Both now have pretty decent head articulation. I wonder what the thought process on that design was...

Prob the same thought process as paiting out the light pipings.

dude i love it. i was waiting for someone to do this, i was even considering it. you cant have a sideswipe without a sunstreaker. awesome work.

they both look awesome. I was thinking of making a sunstreaker myself. It will be my first repaint attempt. I had the same thinking to make swerve into a g1 color sideswipe after playing the rotf game. I was thinking that i could pop the head off of swerve and sideswipe, repaint the sideswipe head and put it on the swerve body. As far as the sunstreaker repaint, i've been browsing the posts to try to get an idea of what to get for paint and things like that. bear in mind that i've never done this before! the major question that i have is what is sealant and when do you use it? all i know is that you use after your done painting.

Basically I just try to remove as many of the parts that I'm going to paint as I can...I don't have an airbrush, so I have to use a rattle can, or hand paint everything. I get most of my paint supplies from my local hobby shop, or local hardware store. Get yourself some flat gray primer, and use a layer of that before you put your new color down. I try to make sure that I use several light coats of spray, and let the paint dry before the next coat. That way you will have a nice smooth finish. I let the painted parts dry overnight at a minimum, and then I spray them with a Krylon clear coat. The finish of the clearcoat (gloss or flat) depends on the figure. Once that clearcoat has had enough time to dry, then I carefully re-assemble the figure. I have a crap ton of acrylics in bottles that I use to add details and accents. In my Sunstreakers case, I used a spray for the areas around the chest/shoulders (the main parts of the car), and then I hand painted all of the yellow areas on his head, waste, and legs. The hardest part for me is making myself go slow...when I see a project starting to come together I have a tendancy to want to move faster, and that will lead to mistakes.
Before I ever started re-painting Transformers, I built alot of model airplanes. What I learned is that you want to try to prime and paint most of the pieces of the model before you glue it all together...a custom TF is no different, you're just kind of doing it all in reverse.
If you mess it all up, it's no big deal really...you're going to make mistakes, and that is the only way you can learn how to do it better next time. Do it enough, and soon you will find your own style of customization that you will be comfortable with. These forums are the best tool you have for learning new methods, so I encourage you to abuse the search button like it owes you money.

Though I still prefer the silver one, this definitely fits to be Sunstreaker as a repaint
