Wideload

When Classics Optimus came out, I didn't like him. He just didn't look "Optimus Prime" enough. And since I had both the G1 Optimus and the 20th anniversary Optimus, I really had no compelling reason to pick him up.

Then they released him repainted as Ultra Magnus in a 2-pack with Skywarp at Target. I didn't like him any better as Ultra Magnus. So my first thought upon seeing the 2-pack was "Man, I don't wanna pay twenty bucks for Skywarp, and some ugly paperweight." Of course, I did pay twenty bucks for Skywarp and some ugly paperweight. Yay, I have Skywarp now.

And then me and my girlfriend got to thinking, that the mold for Optimus/Ultra Magnus wasn't so bad in its own right, just bad as an Optimus Prime. So, I gave it to her, and told her I'd repaint it into an original character provided she'd come up with the idea of who the hell it would be.

And so, here is Wideload.

I sanded the head thing down, and put that groove intoit, but the rest is just paint & stickers.

It was kind of refreshing to repaint an Optimus into someone other than Ultra Magnus or Nemesis Prime.

I really like the blue and yellow in the colour scheme. The purple of the Decepticon symbol and red of the feet really pop out. I wouldn't mind seeing a bit more red in the figure, though too much extra red would interfere with the yellow/blue synergy.

I usually try to stick with 2 or 3 colors when repainting someone. Otherwise, the paint job can potentially just look cluttered.

And I intended the red on his feet to represent brake lights/turn signals, anyway...

Well, this sure looks a lot better than Wideload the Throttlebot :APPLAUSE: Now you need to have a matching trailer to go with it. :P

After me and my girlfriend saw the Classics Optimus trailer and that gigantic sword, we want those to repaint for Wideload, but I'm not sure it's in my price range...

Yeah, the trailer, whether it's the BTS or FansProject G3 trailer, is well worth it from what I've gathered from reviews.

The God Sword, on the other hand, is very pricey for what you get, albeit it is a darn cool accessory. It's in the $75.00 USD range from what I can recall. It's more expensive than the BTS trailer and almost as expensive as the FansProject G3 trailer, which is definitely worth every penny.

There are TWO trailers?!

I've only seen one.

I've really got VERY little experience with 3rd party stuff. Could you post a link to pictures of, or a place that sells each trailer?

And as far as that sword, Does it connect to the same hole in his back that the big bun/truck rooftop goes in when it's in that "jetpack" mode? It would be a shame to have to stick his shoulder cannons in the parts box while he's got the other thing on his back...

I'm not sure how the God Sword attaches to the back of Optimus Prime in the jetpack mode. I'm assuming it's the hole you mentioned as it would provide a stable support point. The photos of the jetpack mode suggest that's where it is plugged into on the figure.
