ROTF Jolt head articulation mod

I've been thinking about posting this for awhile now. I've seen a lot of complaints online about Jolt not being able to move his head. Once I had mine, within 15 minutes, I had my dremel out, removing that huge...horn... behind his head. The results for a little cutting are fantastic. So I thought I'd post pics to maybe encourage others to get more out of the figure. Because I really find myself liking Jolt a lot for some reason. He's honestly one of the more fun to tinker with deluxes from the ROTF line IMO.

Just cutting that plastic off flush with his shoulders gives you complete and dare I say - normal - head articulation.

Much cleaner look from behind as well.

Cutting off the extra height does not affect the transformation. He still functions normally. The only thing you'll notice afterwards is that you can now see his head in alt mode when looking underneath. For me, that wasn't a big problem.

And I just like this pic... cuz of how the flash interacted with the "electrowhip". :P

Tools: Dremel, Hobby Knife. Optional - fine grit sandpaper.

Directions for the mod are simple. Take a dremel, use a cut-off wheel, start from the back of the figure. You can see at what height I made my cut in the pictures. I found it best to operate my dremel on a speed of about 3 or 4, it's enough to cut the plastic without melting it and making a bigger mess. Once you've worked your way through that plastic, remove the piece. You may need to finish it off with the hobby knife, as some of the plastic melts back together a tiny bit. Once off, clean the area up with the hobby knife, removing unwanted burs and scrap. Additionally, you can take some fine grit sand paper and rub the area lightly to round off the edges and remove any rough spots.

*Edit* I had forgotten a step. It may not be mandatory, but I personally recommend removing the entire gray piece that makes up the back and what the "horn" attaches to. Simple step - take a small phillips head screw driver and take the three screws out seen in picture 3. Pop the back piece off. This allows you to get a cleaner cut without fighting all the other pieces of the figure. Mod can probably be done without disassembly, but it's just easier this way and you don't accidently lop off his head.

This is kinda similar to Animated Lockdown and BB's hand mod. Nice. :APPLAUSE:

Thanks. :)

Also, for those that may not have him already, but were considering him, and wondering what this mod actually removes, here is a stock picture I grabbed from Google images.

Great mod. Thanks for posting the steps! It'll come in handy should I ever get Jolt.

Hope you find him soon, he's one of those rare ROTF figures that actually have an easy transformation process :P I've seen people postion his back kibble (the doors and bumper) in a way that makes him look closer to the movie version.

Yeah, I like to put his door wings behind him, pointing the tips up. It looks cleaner that way, and it also holds the hood in place better. I'm looking at taking a dremel and notching the bumpers to allow them to fold in a tiny bit more, and actually click in place. I've got it figured out where to cut, now I just need to get around to it. But it should tighten up the backpack a bit more.

Ths is the only pic I took today that shows what you were talking about, but you can see the tips of the wings are behind him and how much that cleans up his appearance. He really is a great figure. I enjoy him way more then the twins or Sideways.

Don't have the twins yet, but Jolt is def better than Sideways anyday. Yea, once you find out a way you like to pose his kibbles and whatnot, he's a pretty sweet figure. :APPLAUSE:
