I'm new and need help painting rust. any suggestions?

I am an inexperienced amateur, and have trouble making my rust look authentic. anyone who has any tips PLEASE help! :???:

I got my best rusty look with a 50/50 mix of enamel rust and thinner. You have to seal the piece first though, or use this over over acrylic, or it'll make the base color run.

If you want really good results though, there's Rustall.

Thank you! I've never heard of rustall, but I know that I can do the 50/50 mix. :D

Try a watered down mix of red+brown acrylic paint, let it flow through the gaps, and make some scattering with paper tissue, let dry and repeat as necessary. Drybrushing works well too.

The thing about rust is that it isn't one colour. If you examine rust (it's easy to do with google) you'll see that older rust is darker. Check these out:

I used four colours:
yellow, orange, reddish brown, dark brown, layered in that order.

The best advice I can give is search for pics online of rust.
