Hello, all! I was cleaning out my computer files and came across some pics I forgot I had - my first TF repaint: G1 Scourge into G1 Alpha Trion. Way back when E-Hobby was first starting to do repaints and re-issues, I thought it would be cool for them to make an Alpha Trion, but my hopes seemed to be in vain. Ignorant kid that I was, I thought it couldn't be that hard, so I decided to try myself. Scourge seemed to be the natural mold to use; moustache and beard were already there. Body style was similar. Cape/wings were in place also. I'd just have to remold the head. BTW, I'd never sculpted before either. So begins the lesson. Anyway, I made an AT helmet out of Sculpy, disassembled Scourge, and mixed up my colors. Which was a project in itself because we had no Internet in my house. I rented tapes from the local video store and photographed scenes with AT in them for reference to get my colors right. Halfway through the whole mess I realized I had no clue how to keep the paint from chipping during transformation. Oh, well, you never saw AT transform anyway, I reasoned, so not-Scourge was lacquered solid after reassembly to become stiff as a board. I still was proud of how he turned out, and the Reprolabels staff whom I shared the photos with didn't even recognize he used to be Scourge until I told them.

Thanks. This has been, good grief, I can't remember how many years ago. I even went out and bought an airbrush just for it, thinking I would be oh-so-professional. Haven't used it since.

Thank you. I still have him in a window box with a cheap 3P Vector Sigma beside him.

I think Scourge and Cyclonus' molds are unfortunately among those missing in action, along with Springer, Blurr, and Wreck-Gar.

Recently finished making my own based off of this wonderful idea. I had some extra Ultra Magnus stickers I was able to repurpose into some additions. Turned out Great!!
Thank you for this idea, I love it!!!

Mildly envious that yours transforms.

What did you use for the helmet?

I made the helmet with Sculpy; it's pretty lumpy in some places. Used an old gun handle i cut off for the stem; it makes decent pictures from the front. You can see from the profile that my sculpting skills are not very good, haha!
As for transformation, I do have to be very careful when I do it, the paint scrapes at some points. I took him apart to do most of the painting. The paint scraping was waaaaay worse until I did a polyurethane coat. I wasn't even going to bother with the top coat until I noticed that; and I did it with him assembled, but kept it out of most of the joints.
Thank you so much for the idea! Its easily in my top 10 favorite pieces in my collection now, and definitely the best conversation piece. This is my first full repaint as well, I'd done a few 3D printed replacement parts (Galvatron cannon and Scorponok head), but nothing that went and changed who a character is.

You're welcome, and thank you for the comments. Since that first custom, I've learned to sometimes sand or shave parts slightly to allow for primer, paint, and topcoat layers building up. Especially in peg and tab holes. Other times I've let it go because, "Eh, nobody's gonna see this except me."
