Touched Up DOTM Megatron

Hello, all! Nothing really major here, just thought I'd share my touch-up on DOTM Megs. I hated it with the Ice Cream Truck Twins and I hate it with this fig; molding rust onto a character and then not painting it. Seriously, what would it have added to the cost of production? Anyway, it was a fun way to unwind on Memorial Day. And it pushed me to finally decide to bite the bullet and buy a decent camera so I can share something special here later. BTW, I also added some paint to the gash on his face, but I didn't see the point on transforming him to show it since I wouldn't be able to clearly zoom in on it anyway.

Update: got the better camera and reshot all the pics. Hope you can see things a little more clearly now.

I hope you don't mind more constructive criticism...

If you examine rust you'll see it's not just one colour. Take a look at this.

Hey, that looks really nice. I know rust has different shades because of different areas of oxidation, but when I paint a TF - and I know this sounds stupid - I'm not going for realism. I want to do something that enhances it, but at the same time looks like it could have been done at the factory if they would have bothered to make the trouble. Not taking anything away from the hard work you or anyone else does here, I just have a different approach. Thanks for the instruction, though.

Casual!! That's the word I was thinking of! Casual! No denying a lot of people here do a much more professional job than I do, but I'm just in it for the fun. If I achieve any degree of realism with it, then that's just icing on the cake. I guess it's like George Lazenby said about playing James Bond: "I'm in it for the bucks and the birds." Then again, we see how far he went.

That is the exact thing that goes through my mind while repainting something. For me, its all about the fun and all that really matters is if you are happy with your results.

I like the look of this and would love to see the bot mode of this.

Thanks. I didn't really do anything to the bot mode except paint the face gash. I just tried to paint wherever the molded rust was on the vehicle mode, then added to some places I thought would be logical like the ladders and under the windows, etc. My reasoning was kind of: "Oh, he'll look like an easy heap of junk to beat in vehicle mode, then jump up in shiny robot mode and scare the living **** out of you."

I almost always display my repaints in bot form so I was just curious. My voyger Megs is currently in a stack of various tranformer I plan to repaint or mod.
