DOTM Springer

I do have more pics of him in robot mode, but I've been trying for half an hour to load them here and since it's almost 3:30 in the morning I don't feel like transforming him to spend another half hour re-shooting them.

I didn't know the green was metallic when I bought it (the cap didn't make that very clear) but I think the dullcote toned the glitter down enough. The yellow went on a bit heavier than what I wanted in order to cover up the black and green, but it still seems okay to me. You probably can't tell but there are white targeting highlights on the rocket launchers, red-tipped warheads, aluminum pistons in the legs, yellow vents on the legs, and the mouthplate is aluminum. I know the original Springer had an all-green head, but I wanted to break up the monochrome a bit. I also added yellow paint behind the eyes/visor to enhance the color of the plastic. I added the large cannons from Topspin to beef up his firepower. I may fill in the cavities on those with epoxy later on, but I'm satisfied with them now. I am in the process of getting a better camera so I can properly display a special project I was working on simultaneous to this one. I just hope I can get those pics to upload after I take them.

Update: finally got the better camera and reshot all the pics. Everything loaded this time. :KREMZEEK: Hope you can see things clearer now.

I hope you don't mind some constructive criticism...

There are a few things that spoil it on first glance for me:
- dull grey unpainted mechanical robot parts
- dull grey unpainted parts on underside of helicopter

To break up the green a bit more you could paint the sides of the pull-out shin thing. It'll still be plain green in chopper mode.

My intention had been to paint those pop-out vents a different color to break up the green, but I couldn't get the legs apart. Two of the screw heads stripped out on me when I was disassembling him, and I don't think my brushes are small enough to get in there on the sides without smearing. And I did think - after a couple transformations - about painting the grey panels, but my thoughts on that are covered in my reply to the DOTM Megatron. I want it to look "better", at least different, but not "real." I don't know if anyone will understand that or not.

I used the chain guns from Highbrow to beef up the fire power on my skyhammer figure, you might want to check those out.

Otherwise it looks pretty good, and thanks for the tip, I'll make sure my grren os flat before I start repainting.

The Highbrow guns were my original choice, but we never got him in this area and I didn't feel like spending inflated prices on eBay for, essentially, a couple of guns. I think they would look better; I just can't justify $30 to myself over $9 with my Walmart discount. I'm hoping over time someone will have the weapons alone for sale at some point.

It's as if Springer skipped the '86 movie and showed up for DOTM! Nice work. I actually like the shiny green paint, also. Spiffy!

Thanks. I thought about leaving the legs alone since Springer's legs weren't green, but then he would've looked cockeyed in alt mode with a black tail and green cockpit. You could get away with stuff in the '80s that you can't now.
