G.I. Joe/Human Alliance - Duke
Posted: Sun Jul 10, 2011 9:55 amHello, all! Finally got my new camera so I could take pics of these without them turning into balls of fuzz. I loved the first round of Human Alliance, but the DOTM line has me slightly underwhelmed, especially with human names. After about a minute I brainstormed the obvious: goodbye, NEST, and Yo Joe! My fat fingers,shaky nerves, and eye strain threatened to derail this project on several occasions, but I pushed on and came up with something I'm very pleased with, even if it's not perfectly as I envisioned it. Future HA deluxes will get the same treatment. The Wreckers I'm not sure about at this moment, but something will present itself.
First off is Duke with Sandstorm. I tried to shave down the figure's Elvis hair into a crewcut as best I could. Problem was the forehead juts forward instead of sloping back, and the ears are molded right on the hairline, so I couldn't shave him as close as I planned for fear of chopping away chunks of his head. Has a bit of a Frankenstein look to him, but it's what I could manage on something this small. Painted the hair yellow for that cartoon-blonde effect. The size was a huge obstacle to putting a full Joe logo on these figs, either by printing labels or painting, so I simply painted on the red-white-and-blue stripes that trailed behind the classic 80's Joe logo. I'm going to try to find some way to make figure stands for all of them because none of them stand well, especially Duke; one leg is shorter than the other. Up next: Flint.
