Frame Rail

Frame Rail started out as 2010 Hubcap. I liked the styling, and decided to go with a '50s hot-rod deco. The alt-mode is flat black and silver, with flames from a sheet of Pinewood Derby wet-transfer decals. Robot mode is primarily steel, with rust gauntlets and red shoulders.

Cute. Like the deco, flames really add flare to the figure.

I like what you came up with. Looks good! I was thinking something along the line of micromaster Big Daddy, though I think he was a Chevy Bel-aire. I was also wondering about Hearts of Steel stunticons.

That is basically what I was wishing the figure was like when I looked at it a couple days ago. This is cool.

Nice job! Hubcap definitely needed a custom paintjob. Red plastic all too often looks cheap and fake on a toy unless it's really deep.

With that repaint, Hubcap gets a paint job he deserves.

Same here. He was a good fig, but the cheap-looking [IMO] red plastic put me off buying it.

Thanks guys! I kinda lucked out in that Hubcap was warming pegs in my local Wally, so I snapped up a few. I've got another I plan on keeping in the same colors, just making him look better, then another I want to do as ZZ Top's Eliminator.

I knew a guy a long time ago that made 100's of models, and he did a great Eliminator as well as Cadzilla. He would build customs of his friends' cars too. Freaking awesome.

If you do an Eliminator, definitely post it. That would be beyond great.

Just counting the ones I've repainted and/or kitbashed into other characters, I've got about 30 (plus five more in various stages of completion.) Add to that the 50 or so from various lines (Mostly BW and '07/ROTF/DOTM) that I've repainted just to make them more screen accurate.

That's nice, although I'd prefer it if the flames didn't end so abruptly. An interesting deco though!

Thanks! I did try a couple different ways to "sculpt" the flame decals on the doors, but I didn't like the result (and I was running out of decal), so I went this route as a last resort.

Wow, he looks awesome. This makes me want to grab another Hubcap just to see what kind of paint scheme I could try to throw on him. My favorite part is probably that rust color, it just looks so fitting on this mold.

I am going to try a repaint of Hubcap and was wondering how you managed to get the lower legs apart. The two huge flat-head pins on each leg are giving me fits even after heating him in water. I can always paint the legs still assembled, but it would be much easier to get them apart. I broke the small slot tab on each door/forearm getting them apart and don't want to have to glue anything else if I can keep from it ;)

Yeah, I wasn't even gonna try to disassemble his legs. I hate those blind pins with a passion.

I'm with you on that one. I am going to just paint around the legs as they are. It adds a bit more challenge, but thats half the fun ;) Planning on trying to give this guy a G1 Tailgate paintscheme and really looking forward to getting to see how it turns out. I have been toying with the idea of modifying a Gundam model kit head to get something a little different, but not really sure yet. His transformation doesn't allow much space for a larger head thats for sure. Thanks again for the input on the leg pins!
