TF:P Megatron With Improved Cannon

Megatron always seems to get less effort put into his toys than Optimus but at least this one looks screen accurate, if you ignore the gun. This isn't the first time a Megatron toy hasn't been able to turn his head, nor is it the first time a Transformers has been given a ball joint neck that was rendered useless by the stuff around it.

There have been complaints about how flimsy and cheep this figure feels. That may be the case but that plastic is damned hard to cut!

Fixes:

-Trimmed the back of Megatron's helmet to allow full mobility.
-Trimmed the shoulder sockets to increase range of motion.
-Rebruilt the cannon to reduce its size and increase screen accuracy.
-Altered the position of the cannon in jet mode so it sits further forward.

Oh yes, of course, there's that other Megatron tradition of having an awful colour scheme...

As always, there are plenty more pictures of him here. Thanks for looking, please leave me some comments.

Nice! How did you rebuild the cannon?
And how does the blade attach to it now?

Just one more question: why not leave the translucent purple for his limbs and torso?

Most impressive.... :CON:

I've heard a lot of complaints on other forums that the texture on the chest plate and other areas are notoriously hard to paint. I don't own TFP Megs, so I've no idea just how bad the texture on the parts are.

How did you get around that? Sanding?

BTW, the effect you painted onto his cannon's muzzle looks awesome.

All in all, an exquisite custom worthy of any collector's display shelf. Pardon the hyperbole; must be watching too many Iron Chef reruns.

To make the cannon I took the barrel and front half of the main chamber, removed certain raised details and stuck the purple part from the back end on. The chamber is wrapped with sheet plastic, the details also made from sheet plastic.

The blade attaches with 5mm peg and hole cut from discarded parts of the cannon.

I didn't leave the transparent purple parts transparent because they aren't transparent in the cartoon. Those parts look plasticy and I think you'll agree that on my version that is no longer the case. Whenever there's a close up of Megatron's face you'll see that the purple parts around his collar have chipped off to reveal silver underneath.

I just painted over it. Many of the pale parts have a grain but in the case of his chest it merely contributed to the brushed steel or battered look.

Thank you! It's only the third time I've painted that effect.

Good point. I do remember that you go for extreme screen accuracy.
I'm just a big fan of the 'dark energon glow' vibe from the body piping, if you will.

Nonetheless, really really nice work, again!
