Movie Leader Megatron Repaint

Here are some pics of my movie Megatron repaint. I hope you enjoy.

Stage 1: I seperated a few of the main parts for easier painting. A few dabs of Silly Putty were placed in the gaps and holes to protect the light and sound features while painting. Once the main painting was complete, the Silly Putty is easily removed (This is a great method for painting realistic camo on military models). I used a dark gray Krylon spray primer for the first coat. Once this coat dried, I sprayed the pieces with matte varnish

Image

Stage 2: I then painted the seperate pieces using Krylon silver spray paint. Once this coat dried, I sprayed it with matte varnish and reassembled the figure.

Image

Stage 3: Basically, this is the finished figure. I used several ink washes to add depth and age to the look. I then painted the gold and copper details as well as some silver drybrushing to clean up the ink washes. Sealed again with matte varnish.

Image

And here are a few close-up shots. I hope you can see some of the detail work a bit better. I actually painted parts in the eye silver to better reflect Megatron's movie look. Of course, the light piping and electronics all still work.

Thank you for taking a look. Feel free to share any thoughts you might have. I value your input. Take care!

EDIT:
This figure is now available on ebay

Truly how the figure should have looked in the first place, I love it, and if I had the skill and tools to do that, it might almost make the figure worth getting.

 WOW, now I know that he's worth a buy!
Does the paint chip of?
And if not, which brand did you use?
Man that just improves him. Just the head, hów about using diferent paint tones on his face, that may improve his look.
Ore is it just the pixs that let his face seem a bit dull put up against the paint on the body?
Keeop it going

You managed to make a bad figure look great!
Kudos.
1)did you visualize this right away when you saw this figure?
2)what exactly is an ink wash and where might I find a good tutorial on how to do it?
3)do you have any idea how to remove newer model heads, like on the classics figures? They are kinda bolted in.
I ask because I want to put classics megatron's (the green tank) head onto cybertron unicron's body (the deluxe one), making classics war within megatron, and combine the remaining body with cybertron skywarp and make classics blitzwing (I know it can work)

Very nice.

If i wasnt so afraid of taking him apart (all those moving parts) i would do something similar.

And kudos for not doing the typical G1 fan thing and re-painting him like G1 Megs.

dude, that's your best one yet..
all should be this way..
your paint job makes the figure, it's worthless without it.

Thanks!

It would be nice if Hasbro did some Spawn quality paint jobs on at least special limited figures.

This just goes to show that the movie figures would all look so much better if they were painted the way they actually look in the movie, Hasbro's paint jobs have managed to hide most of the detail.
