G1 Optimus Prime touch-ups

Looking for a chair warranty yesterday, I took G1 Prime out of the drawer and thought he could use some touch-up. Then I figured -- why not? 1. it's not like I intend to sell him; 2. not a childhood toy, a friend gave him to me years ago; 3. I have the Hasbro MP-10 anyway (aka The Most Amazing Toy on the Planet.)

So far I used a silver pen/marker/whatever on the front of the grill and bumper, it looks fantastic if I may say myself. No blotches or issues, it shines and brings out details that were hard to see in dark blue. (I didn't take a "before" pic, but they were almost entirely blue.)

When the paint is completely dry I'd like to do the sides of the above; the smokestacks, upper legs and everything else that needs silvering-up.

Any tips how to avoid accidentally touching the red/blue parts? (hasn't happened yet.)

Can hardly wait to get it done and get a pair of hands for him. Maybe I'll remove those silly stickers from his lower arms, too.

This is kind of fun

What's it doing in Customizations? It's maintenance work, or restoration, really.

Anyway, an update.

Can you go into any detail on what the, "silver pen/marker/whatever," is exactly? ;)^

DecoColor, Liquid Silver, Opaque Paint Marker.

Extra-fine & Broad line. Made in Japan.

It looks pretty good so far. Waiting to see how it holds up. Might need to apply a transparent coat of something? I don't really have experience with this stuff.

I wouldn't actually dare use it on an expensive Transformer. Before applying the silver marker I read a little on the internet, apparently silver markers are controversial among TF fans. But as I'm not familiar with anything else I gave it a shot.

Still need to glue smokestacks in place. (they're rather loose and rotate downward.) Remove the arm stickers. Maybe final touches to the silver. And of course he needs fists.

There's a set with a gun on Shapeways but with the steep shipping fee it comes up to $30+. There's also the BTS-03 set which includes the Matrix, the energy axe, a gun and a jetpack; with shipping it also comes up to $30+. For that money I can get a complete Transformer so I'm still not sure.

Because we don't have a sub-forum specific for maintenance and restoration.

I'd get the BTS-03 pack, if only for the fists that can let Optimus hold an MP sized Matrix.
