Action Formers

I've started work on a line of non-transforming Action Master-esq minifigures. This line of action figures is based on a highly articulated minifigure endoskeleton to which armor parts snap on in order to complete the character.

This is the Proto Action Former. This highly articulated minifigure stands at just a hair under 2" tall. The parts can be reconfigured into a multitude of different ways to form many different creations and body types. Different themed armor sets will snap onto this Proto Former to create different characters.

This is a generic set of armor for me to use as a starting point when creating character sets. Being a generic I've decided to name him "Nail" ;)
The armor snaps onto the Protoform endoskeleton.

The Protoform as well as the armor parts will be available through my Shapeways site once I've done sufficient testing and quality checks.

After I've built up a library of armor components and parts it will be possible to mix/match parts to create OC characters. I also plan on doing varied protoforms for different body types such as the "hero", "thug" and "fem", but all parts will be interchangeable to allow for full customization.

It's been suggested that I make a transforming version of these guys and it may be possible with some partsforming, but I'm not even thinking about that yet ^__^

This is an interactive 3D view of the protoskeleton on sketchfab to give you a closer look at the minifigure endoskeleton.

Finished up the first character set of armor, I'm rather happy with how it's turned out and might look nice on your Classics shelf next to a deluxe Cyclonus....

Looking good! Cant wait for builds like "Logical"
Truly endless possibilities! They dont all even need to transformers related! You could commission just about anything and make a killing...

I'm personally looking forward to "Psychiatrist" and "Paranoid", but there's others that need doing first ^__^

Funny you should say that, a coworker of mine was suggesting I do armor sets based on Isaac from Dead Space or N7 armor from MassEffect... Too bulky for this figure platform I'd think though...

But yeah, sky's the limit. I'm REALLY hoping that I can get this system popular enough to attract other designers to make armor sets for it. :D

This is pretty awesome. I was a big fan of Action Masters at the time, even though they were pretty limited in both appearance and playability. Are you planning on selling these sets? Because I will buy every last one I can.

thanks guys! Yup, I just want to get them thoroughly tested first before I make them available to others. Better I spend my own money on buggy designs than you spend yours. Once I've got them in hand (ordered them on Friday) I'll be able to determine what all needs fixing and if all goes well make them available for purchase.

I've already gotten started on the next character set of armor ^__^

This looks like a great idea. Looking forward to seeing a finalized product. I'd love to see this branched out to other lines. Maybe a little Cobra Viper from JOE? Yeah?

this system doesn't really lend itself to humans but I'm sure it could be adapted. Although, Hasbro's already got you covered with some Joe minifigures eh? ^__^
