Custom Flywheels

Greetings :)

I created this custom based on the work of someone else.

I used TFCC Breakaway for mine along with Energon Signal Flare.

For Signal Flare, I cut off all of his torso to create this and chopped off all but a small nub of the long bit that his head would normally be attached to and reshaped the remaining nub so that it fits snugly into the Energon connector on Breakaway. I used the main part of his torso that connects to his arms normally to create his turret which doubles as a standalone gun turret when he's in bot mode. I modded his robot arm so that it fits facing towards the cab of his vehicle mode, filling in the gap that's now present thanks to the removal of his torso bits. That same modded arm acts as a stabilizing 'leg' for the turret when used in standalone mode to help it balance. I placed a Decepticon symbol over the Autobot symbol on his arm. The rotating gun barrel gimmick for his turret still functions fully, both in vehicle mode and when used as a standalone turret. He transforms into the legs of the bot mode (obviously).

For Breakaway, I detached his legs by removing the pins that held on the purple bits that formed his waistpiece and used those same pins to attach his new wings. The wings themselves are from bits chopped off of Beast Hunters Optimus Prime's shoulder kibble (I'd already popped those off of Prime and just had them lying around as I think Prime looks MUCH better without them ;)). I used a couple of stickers from Takara Arms Micron Breakdown's Arms Micron partner to create a similar line design on his tail fins to the G1 version of Flywheels since I never stickered up/used the Arms Micron hammer dude anyway. I placed a Decepticon symbol over the Autobot logo on the plane/his chest. I also used the small 'crystal' Arms Micron Decepticon sticker from Breakdown's Arms Micron to cover up the Autobot logo inside the Energon crystal on the back of his jet mode/robot backpack.

I haven't painted this custom at all, and I don't think I'm going to as I like the way it looks as-is. I may grab some of the repaints of these molds (and possibly other Energon molds with similar bits/engineering to these guys) to do further variations of this custom later on.

Sorry for the crappy quality of the images. All I have to work with is my very old, very crappy phone camera (640x480).

Nice work ;)^

So, will we see Battletrap from Strongarm and Blackout next? :D

Hmm...I'm not sure if Strongarm has components capable of working in such a configuration (particularly without destroying his alt mode, which would defeat the purpose), but it's certainly worth a shot ;).

I just checked out Stormcloud (same mold as Blackout etc.) in detail, and there's no way this would work unfortunately :(.

That's a shame, would've looked great :-(

Agreed. If you know of any other energon bots who, like that jet mold, have the combiner port on the bottom of their robot torso facing downward, let me know. That's basically all that's required to combine them with bots like Signal Flare.

I haven't yet checked the rest of the Aerialbots and Combaticons yet, and don't have any of the Constructicons, so there may be hope to get some interesting and odd combinations for custom Duocons.

The only one I can think of is the Sledge/Bonecrusher mould, but with how the chest connects to the hips and covers the port it might be a bit harder to make it work.

You wouldn't happen to have any pictures of it, would you? Or do you know where some may be found? I basically need to see the port and the bot in great detail, including mid-transformation to see where the port is and his torso is in relation to the rest of him with the top half transformed into bot mode and the Energon/combiner port exposed at the bottom and facing downward.

I was afraid you would ask that :P So Constructicon Maximus is standing on the desk atm, will take some pics ;)

Hope this is what you need. Both top and bottom halves are transformed, just haven't locked the hips into place.

Hehe, it figures. I just bought one on ebay as I was too tempted to try it, but looking at your pics, it looks like his legs are totally going to be in the way :P.

Oh well, I'm still betting I can mess with it and come up with something interesting, even if I have to pull some pins and do a bit of parts-forming.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with :D
