Removing awkward pins? (FOC Grimlock)

I'm trying to fix his shoulders first and foremost, but his pins are really awkward to get to.
I've tried heating it up using a hair dryer and trying to knock it out with a hammer and nail but the angle is really really weird.
Putting clear nail polish along the joint isn't working, I'll have to actually detach them and pour it down the pin hole.
Does anyone know what's the best way to get to this pin without destroying the figure?
