Gens Metroplex ramp extension

I started modding Metroplex’s chest ramp yesterday, and have gotten it to the point you see below:

Image

First I cut the ramp in half. Then I used a piece of CD case (couldn’t find the black plastic I though I had) to make the new center section, cut to fit the space between the small raised lips on the edges of the ramp. (Coincidentally, this width is precisely that of a credit card. The new center section ends up begin slightly longer than a credit card.) The new section slides into the two original ramp sections and is held in place by friction and pressure; because that ramp is a slightly rubbery plastic, it has good elastic strength and does a nice job holding on to the new section.

I wrapped the new section in black duct tape. The end section slides back on the new section, which itself slides back onto the rearmost section. The whole thing just collapses and closes up as originally made.

At this point, the ramp is not quite strong enough for “play”, but I might add some pins that fit into grooves to keep the whole thing together. Before that though, I will add a small raised lip to the new section to better blend it in, and maybe cut some holes in it to match the original sections.

Better pics coming soon. Thoughts and comments please!

Get a proper Shapeways replacement part up and going and I'd buy one. I want the "authentic" G1 ramp look, and it's silly that this version of Metro's ramp is too short to do that.
