Beast Hunters Ultra Magnus (NOW WITH SCRATCHBUILT FORGE OF SOLUS PRIME)

Watching the final episodes of Transformers: Prime made me really want this Ultra Magnus figure, it's a shame he has such a weak design with stupid spindly, bent arms. I was going to just slosh some paint over him but I decided to remove his shoulder missile gimmick first. I went for an accurate colour scheme in robot mode, unfortunately this means he has very unconvincing red windscreens in truck mode.

The Forge Of Solus Prime included with this figure is just too puny so I made my own (using the original shaft, Games Workshop paint tops, cogs and ice cream tub cuttings). Had I known I was going to be able to build one I would have given him ball joint wrists (and maybe an interchangeable claw hand). This Forge is a little larger than it should be but I'm sure it's better than the original!

Love what you've done with it!

I think you made the right choice on painting up the windscreen. I mean, the majority of collectors prefer keeping their TF's in bot mode anyway.

The tiny red paint apps really bring the toy to life. I especially love the rhinestones on the headlights. Silver paint just doesn't quite give alt mode headlights the same level of realism.

My only suggestion would be to give the tires a matte clear coat to make them look like actual rubber, but I doubt you can be bothered with that.

Overall, an awesome job.

The odd thing is that the tires ARE coated with matte varnish...

Really? They seem so shiny. Could it be that they haven't completely dried yet?

No, they're dry. More likely they need another coat or two.

Looks great! I agree that the red wind screens are the way to go. I probably wouldn't even have paid attention to them in alt mode if you hadn't mentioned them.

I also REALLY like the rhinestones for lights. Think I'm gonna have to give that a try in the future. Thanks for the idea! The whole squad looks awesome. Great work :APPLAUSE:

BTW, I have been tossing around the idea of making a "Forge" for my shapeways shop. If I do decide to do it, I'd be willing to sell the first one at cost to someone who'd be willing to paint it pretty and take some pics for me to use on the site. It'd look great in this guy's hand if your interested. I'd do it myself, but I don't see time to do Mags in my near future.

I'm bumping this because I've just added pics of the stratchbuilt Forge of Solus Prime (see original post).

Magnus looks amazing and that Forge is incredible! Love the headlights too! They really bring a new level of detail to the alt mode.
