Two Autobot warriors were mortally wounded in battle. In order to save them both, medics were forced to join the two together in order to survive. I've read somewhere they used to transform into jet like vehicles but can no longer transform after the operation.

what's thier alt mode? just curious if it was as clever as the bot itself?

Rack 'n' Ruin don't transform anymore. Before they were joined each transformed into some kind of jet sled, if I remember rightly (although this was referred to, we never saw them separately).
Whether they can still now partially transform (gerwalk-style) into some composite version (like a catamaran), I don't know for sure, but I'm doubtful since they never did in the comics.

Nice work, Charger! It's also good to see someone recognising the original characters as they were, rather than assuming they were one 'bot (I've seen that a lot)...
