Protofrom Prime Digibashes Update #2, Arcee and Waspinator

A couple of Digibahses of Protoform Prime I made since I had nothing else to do.

Now if only I could paint that well, I'd repaint a Protoform Prime for real.

Alas, i'll have to settle with the digibashes.

Thanx.

As for Cosmos and Pathfinder, you want a Protoform Prime in those colors?

Yeah, I think it would look kinda cool.

There you go. Cosmos.
I really don't think this mold looks good in those colors, but to each his own.

Nice digibashing there. I could learn from you.
Cosmos actually works, never thought I'd say it. I can see that happening.
Really sweet.

Thanx. It really is not very hard to do when you have a good picture to start with. (I Thank Ryan for that)

Anyway Glad you like them.

I use gallery pics, but yours are of beter quality after coloring. My pic stil needs cleaning up, but yeah.

They aren't too bad. You need to tighten the areas, so no underlying color is shown at the edges, and maybe use a better color filter so the plastic doesn't look like it was sanded instead of painted.

Also Wreckage has proven difficult to me too. Since he's a little too bright in the white areas, and the Camo spots are hard to remove while still keeping the figure looking right.

On the other hand Proto prime was on of the easier digibashes I've done. He's not to bright and has lots of distinct areas to select, and change their color.

Alright, but what color filter are you talking about. I use GIMP, if that helps.
I see what you mean with the sanding bit, but I think I got the arms looking right.

The Nemesis Protoform reminds me a lot of Nemesis Breaker from Cybertron.

And I also get a Waspinator feel from the Cosmos digibash.

Me likes the both of them, look far superior to the original figure.

hey you mind doing an Arcee? I am 2 weeks into building mine using the prime protoform as my skeletal structure, curious to how YOU would envision the paint scheme.

GIMP has a slightly different way of using the color filters than PSP. Can't offer much advice there.

As for Arcee, well the mold isn't exactly feminine but...

I'll put up the digi a little later.

EDIT: Its up. Added an Energon Arcee Head for a better effect.

First thing I thought when I saw it.

There you go, by popular demand, the Cosmos color scheme, with a Waspy head. enjoy.

thanks for the arcee digibash.
been working on a custom of these for WEEKS now...

I've done a LOT of carving, cutting, dremeling, and sanding, next comes details, then the paint!

gotta also find me one of those energon heads, though i might go with the movie head. :???:

Thats very nice. But where the hell did you get that many Proto Primes? :o

He didn't... these are digibashes, not actual repaints; that is he's got a photo of the figure (from the Seibertron toy galleries) and used photo manipulation software to recolour it.

Regarding the light grey bits, I've found the best way to deal with recolouring them is to mess with the different layer types, and sometimes even to overlay a couple to get the effect you're after.
Here's a quick and dirty Bludgeon one I knocked up...

Image

For the green layer, I painted all the areas I wanted green on a Multiply layer, but the light grey still doesn't bring out the shadows much. So I duplicated the green layer, switched to a Linear Burn and reduced the opacity to 30%. So the Multiply layer darkens the colour and provides most of the hue, and the Linear Burn layer deepens the contrast to bring out the shadows.
The yellow areas were just done by painting yellow on a Hue layer.
This was done in Artweaver, but if you mess about in whatever program you're on, you should be able to find a way of combining the right layers. Another thing of course is to select areas where the tone is too bright or the contrast too low and play with the levels.

As for the camo, here's my attempt at eliminating it (only on the chest).

Image

I did it by using a small airbrush and using the dropper to pick up areas of colour near the edges of the camo. Then rather than stroking the brush across, I stippled it. I also continually selected new colours, rather than just picking the one and doing the whole area. This helps it looks less artificial, I think. But with all the airbrushing, I found I lost the front edge of the chest, so I just drew a couple of slightly softened white lines to sharpen it up.

I was thinking that, if we could remove the blasted gun barrel in the abdomen, give it a new head, and repaint it, the Wreckage model might make a great movie Elita-1, thouhg a pink APC might look a bit odd.

It would. But you could always have the outer hull of the APC in white or light grey, and have any pink areas only show in robot mode.

In other words, reverse her G1 color scheme.

More or less, yeah.
