Not particulary.

The way he drew Prime's chest, making them look like fish tanks really put me off.

Funny you should post this, I just came those comics in my collection. He wasn't too concerned with realism. Just like the example Burn gave. His chest didn't resemble windshields, more like port holes or something. And Devastator looked as if he could crush a whole city block with one foot.
I did like his eye for detail though, like dents, dings, metal plating and seams. Also his "chunky" style did look cool sometimes. He did help put TF's back on the map.

The early TF pieces Lee drew (the Wizard '80s spread and some of the promo posters) looked great. Once he started working on the actual book, IMO his art started getting sloppy.

I didn't like the perspective he used in many of his drawings. The squat he posed many characters in also annoyed the crap out of me.
Like anything, there were some of his pieces that were tolerable, but many many more I can't stand due to his perspective, or his "squatting transformers"

I think some people are too picky, I pretty much like anything Transformers related.

Also, Don Figueroa beats Pat Lee any day. And by beat, I mean slaps him around for awhile, calling him female names, before stomping his skull into the curb and finally beating him with his own leg kind of beat.

Don Figueroa is just that awesome.

That Wizard spread was awesome! I guess he adapted his style to fit the grind of a monthly book.

Nope from what I read the Wizard one wasn't his, he nicked it!

And I think his bots look cool at times but I think they are way to fat!
And if they weren't colore4d I wouldn't look at the pics atall!

tough crowd. I think Lee was a bit of an acquired taste. I enjoyed most of the pigs I saw, but -as for my art- I try to invoke a little more life and personality into it. Also, Lee seldom did his own backgrounds which puts me off a little..

Dude's got talent. Not sure if TF was his best gig, tho.

Well lets take a good look at things here.

We have the 1980s cartoon which until the 86 TF Movie, the animation was crude by todays standards.

This brings me to Marvel Comics and their Transformers comic book which just looked like men in oddly shaped costumes. Transformers Generation 2 didn't do much to improve the image.

While I don't love Pat Lee's art, he did make an attempt to make the Transformers look like robots with metallic parts. I will agree his artwork wasn't the greatest but what I did love was the Dreamwave Generation 1 story line. Transformers Generation 1, Vol 2: War and Peace is still my favorite comic book.

Don Figueroa did an awesome job. I like his art. I like his drawings. I love the work he did with Dreamwave's "War Within". Personally I think he should have designed the Transformers for the Movie. He proved in War Within that he could take the Generation 1 transformers, and redesign their alt modes so they would still resemble their Generation 1 selves in both robot and alt mode.

It always amazes me that people post regularly on a transformers fansite, and in the art section and not know these things. Pat Lee is kinda important in teh recent history of transformers, as much so as Micheal Bay.

I am pretty sure that pic of rumble and frenzy in frenzy_rumble's sig is a lee-

Anywho, personally for me pat lee's art lacked continuality, the scale and awkward transformations irrated me. Still i like his fame, and wouldnt mind some of that

Oh that dude...yeah i like his stuff i think he does some of the best TF art ive seen. I really like his work, i often use it for referance, i just never knew his name.

Grim: Not all of us are encyclopedia's when it comes to transformers, or artwork. You could have just posted a link to some of his work instead of trying to tell people they are stupid for not knowing who he is when posting on a TF fan site.

I actually got some crap on the official TF Movie site when I made a passing reference to liking Pat Lee's art. A whole lot of folks were only too happy to tell me about what a jerk Patt is and how he single-handedly sunk DreamWave. Is that actually true? Darned of I know.
He was definitely an important part of putting Transformers back on the stands, but I do prefer Don Figueroa.

Eiether way the dude can draw.

And Grim getting a promotion?...man what is the world coming to? :P Id really have to question the sanity of the sites admins if they make him a mod thats for sure! The last thing we need are hot-headed ego-maniacs on the mod team cos everyone would end up banned as we'd all be "inferior" to him. lol.

(as much as i joke about, i am semi-serious here. I mean come on! You need to be qualified for modship, it shouldnt just be handed out to any old joe ((this applies to everyone, not just you grim so dont think im singling you out here as much as it sounds like i am im not)). But hopefully the "promotion" isnt for modship.)

I don't mind the general look of Pat Lee's work, but the way he did Prime's chest, with those tiny portholes instead of truck windscreen really annoys me.

Don Figueroa on the other hand always impresses me.

So, was Pat Lee like an art director in charge of establishing the canon of proportions in all the DW comics? I liked War Within, but sometimes I couldn't tell what was what because the character's features were so big; but I don't have this problem with Stormbringer.

Promotion? You're gonna be a mod? Well, good luck with that, man. I got promoted, too. I am now vice president of King Sales, Inc. For reals. High five for Grim and me! (sorry folks, I can't keep it inside anymore. Spent a week feeling like death and now I'm a fat cat....well, kind of)
