The silence you're experiencing is the sound of people writing you novels on strategies and playstyles

Really, it isn't that complicated once you're into it ;)^ Is there anything you're particularly having difficulty with thus far?

Also, welcome! :MAXIMAL:

A Con I presume?

Either PM Burn (or wait until he notices this) and get access to the Darkmount forum. There are a couple threads there (and more coming if some people cbf *cough*HC*cough*) to help get you started.

Another free bit of advice:

Drop out of the arena.

A - You'll be waiting forever for very little XP

B - It's for chumps

C - All the cool kids do missions

I choose option D - It's boring  Missions mean more xp and the mission logs have the potential to be hilarious depending on who joins! RNG can be a cruel mistress

Just have fun. That Level 0 is a bit of a grind keep at it. Get a bit of energon funds by a few weapons, experiment with what you might think your new characters might use as weapons. Once you get some XP under your manifold, you can really start making a difference with upgrades.

There are some story lines in place for our on going battle. Feel free to read through and if you'd like to join the story you can post a link to your team here.

The short version is L0 sucks.

Basically you can do almost anything at that level without it making any difference to battles, the RNG is king. The side with the most players in a mission will win 99% of the time BUT that doesn't matter. What you want if to gain xp and upgrade your way out of L0 as fast as possible. The best way to do this is create a full team of 12 and keep throwing them into missions. Don't worry about being outnumbered because you just want to play as many missions as possible and accumulate xp. Put 6 in and when the missions end and the first 6 are recovering in the CR, put the other 6 in. I'd buy them all null ray rifles to start with too. There are a couple of weapons that work better at low levels but you need to put at least 2 stats into either skill or firepower to get them and IMHO they aren't worth it until you get to L1.

When you get to 1000xp you can put it into a stat, personally I'd go with speed (especially if your alt mode gives you avoid or strafe as tactics). Once you get to your 5th upgrade you get to L1 where you can really start progressing and it's much less of a grind. If you aly mode gives you Avoid that's a really useful 2nd upgrade to makde as you get an extre 50xp each time it's used and you get maximum benefit out of it the lower level you are.

Avoid and Ram are the best tactics at the low levels. Depending on your alt mode, when you are selecting which stats to upgrade, always remember to pair Speed with Avoid and Strength with Ram.

Just dive into a mission and kill ****. Wait til your dudes come back out of CR (about an hour usually) then go and kill more ****. Worry about tactics etc. in a few days when you have some XP.

The fun in this game is in its creativity. You've got a team of up to 12 little dudes to create names, personalities and stories for if you so wish. You can adopt canon characters and alter them to your ideas, or create completely new characters that are utterly ridiculous and hilarious.

Then there is the forum: We've got the super sexy Burn keeping us in check, but its a great way to pass the time whilst your dudes recover after getting a kicking. Just dive in, ask questions and about 50% of the answers might even be helpful.

lastly, don't take the game too seriously, we sure as hell don't.

List of tips...

1. Avoid and Repair are your friends at low levels. (Repair allows you to keep allies in the fight longer and get XP from it; Avoid keeps you in the fight longer and you get XP from it.)

2. Remember your feeder stats - Ram/Strength, Avoid/Speed, Repair/Intell, Strafe/Firepower.

3. Best weapon at low levels is a lightsaber (Skill 2), you shouldn't need anything else until about level four or five.

4. Make a full team; there's really no point in not filling up all twelve slots.

5. Expect to be equally razzed and lauded; sometimes both at once.

6. If you don't see an alt mode you like, wait a couple days for the next automatic rotation; don't be afraid to reset a character and try a completely different build if a current one isn't working for you.

7. MAKE FRIENDS, FACTION IRRELEVENT. Cannot stress this one enough. Having friends and rivals here on the forums is probably the most important part of the game.
(Friendships, Rivalries, and ridiculous pipe dreams are the stuff of legend around here. Just ask about the One-Week War between Wingz and Bun-Bun or my pride in reaching 26% damage done to Gore...)

Beautifully put, Turbo  Beautifully put!

Never forget to hate, rabbit! Never forget... :KREMZEEK:

All wonderful advice, though. For level 0, stats really don't matter. You have so few that it's generally just "fight everything to get to level 1 asap!" I'd definitely grab a lightsaber, though, once you get 2 skill! Once you get to level 1, everyone is generally more than happy to give good build suggestions! I, personally, specialize in all things "repair" and can list a few builds I've found that work really well, depending on how activity is looking. ;)^

Looking forward to seeing you out there! As my opposition! :MAXIMAL:

Welcome ;)^
When they say RNG, it means the games Random Number Generator (like rolling dice).
Put the link for your team here, one of your allies may want to donate energon (currency) to you.

Edit: Found your team https://www.seibertron.com/heavymetalwar/team_view.php?id=133015
Looks like the Decepticons already donated to you, 250,400 energon! :ic$:

Hey, there! Happy to see you made it down to our little HMW lair! :D

Have you chosen a faction yet, by chance? :KREMZEEK:

As much as my twisted mind wants to join the cons (I would have so much fun with them, despite them getting their shiny rears handed to them at first) I do also love the underdogs so thinking of bots

Well, thing to keep in mind with that is that HMW goes through cycles - though they can sometimes take years to happen - where each faction is in the ascendency and in the decline. Rather than the current success/popularity of a faction, you might want to chose one based on the available alternate modes (Psychout has a couple lists somewhere around here that show all the alts each side draws on for its alt mode rotations); factions rise and fall, but without a programmer the alt selections are (effectively) forever...

Yea, Turbo

He has a good point, though. Choose the faction you want to join and feel you'd have the most fun with ;) outnumbered or not, faction doesn't limit who you can have fun with.

Hey Chibi, I see a fellow RPer showed up here. In my case, I'm returning to my other home on this site. New players are always good to have around or ones like myself returning ones are also good.
