HMW BY THE NUMBERS - 13 Aug 2025

Two months on, let's do an update of the By The Numbers thread, shall we? :-D

To start with, looking at the total mission count and win/loss rates - I cut it down to only the last 12 months rather than the full log range, since most of it is obviously unchanged from last time:

hmw_mission_timeline_weeks_2025-08-12.PNG

Noticeably, there's a been a distinct dropoff in activity in the last few months, starting from around mid-May. I'm hoping that we can reverse that trend and get people interested and playing again, now that we have some staff and development effort starting up!

Digging into those figures a little, I tried plotting out daily active users (players who entered a mission), along with the total missions played and average missions per user (which seems like a reasonable proxy for enthusiasm - if people keep playing but don't do as many missions as they used to, it'll show up here).

hmw_DAU_2025-08-12.PNG

And while I'm here, let's update the listing of who those players actually are - showing here the players active (joined a mission) over the last 3 months:

hmw_active_players_2025-08-12.PNG

Unsurprisingly, Bumblevivisector continues to be the most addicted player on the site by a country mile :-P but a 'notable mention' goes out to Ziusundra on the Autobot side... more on them in a moment.

Looking at the top mission players again, here's the charts for total mission participation by faction:

hmw_user_missions_autobot_2025-08-12.PNG

hmw_user_missions_decepticon_2025-08-12.PNG

As before, the Autobot data continues to be a lot 'spikier' than the Decepticons - more players overall, and with the top players contributing a smaller share of the total.

This time around, I highlighted the top 10 players (by mission count) over the last three months rather than the full 3+ years of the logs. One thing this can pick out is the arrival/return of a new prolific player - note Ziusundra coming out of nowhere in March to take the Autobots' #1 spot, while they hadn't even been in the top 10 overall last time.

One more thing I tried with the latest data: since I practically seem to have the site to myself in the morning (UK time), I tried to do a pseudo-heatmap of the times of day bots of different levels are active - that is, bucketing the missions by hour throughout the day and plotting an average. It's not all that reliable, but does make clear the dominance of maxed-out bots during the US daytime (all times given here are server time, i.e. CDT or GMT-5).

OK, let's move on from overall numbers to achievements... First up, I can welcome seven new bots to Millionaires' Club! :APPLAUSE:

As before, the full millionaires dataset is too big to post here, but I've made it available on my GDrive if anyone wants to have a poke around the data.

Leaderboards are fun, let's do some leaderboards!

(I've just done the most obvious numbers here, but I enjoy doing these and can track a surprising number of stats. Anyone have a suggestion for other fun things to do a leaderboard for?)

And because I know someone's going to ask, here's the all-time (well, since the last mission purge in 2022) Top 20 high score list:

And finally (for the moment), let's update the tally of useless armour gathering dust in the faction warehouses since last October ;)

Ok, I think that's all I had lined up. Anything else you'd like to know?

Looks like I'm missed by 1 spot.

Do you have mission win %, or K/D ratio?
Those could be fun stats.

Also, congrats to Bumbles for still smashing it. Keep up the good work dude!

Mission win% is in the first image - table and chart. Or do you mean at a per-character level?
(Edit: Oh, or was that a leaderboard suggestion?)

K/D... I can probably do something with that, though my early data needs some cleanup and the recent issues with zombie bots will confuse things a little. Lemme have a look...

"Average player does 25 missions per day" factoid actualy just statistical error. average player does 0 missions per day. Missions Bumble, who lives on server & does over 1,000 each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

Bouncing off Psychout's comment...

Win% sounds straightforward - had to exclude bots with very low mission counts (<5) so they didn't skew the figures, and also included total mission count as a tiebreaker on the basis that 100% of 30 missions is more impressive than 100% of 5 missions. Also, only counting missions with opposition, not including default wins, as those feel wrong to count.

hmw_leaderboard_winpc_2025-08-12.PNG

Still seems a little swingy though, so wondered if net wins (wins - losses) would be more representative:

hmw_leaderboard_netwins_2025-08-12.PNG

Probably, though now it advantages the same prolific players who occupy the other leaderboards.

Took the same approach to K/D by presenting it as net kills - main problem with ratios / percentages is that there's a lot of zeroes involved, and most players would have very low numbers.

(I really hope I get to build these in with live data at some point)

Thanks again glyph! Great insights.

For some of the low data issues maybe going to a monthly leaderboard would make more sense. Allows you to raise minimum mission count to a reasonable number for meaningful stats so you don’t have to do just do a net (+/-)…though i like that stat as well…very similar to the hockey stat.

As for decrease hopefully just a summer thing as it seems most people have played less overall…though the server issues in late May contributed some too I am sure. In long run a reset is probably in order to make stats and builds meaningful again…and that may help get new players involved.
