Kitbashing : Bringing a V2 character to life

Righteo, let's try this again shall we?

For those who missed it, I am going to use this here little thread to document the development of a kitbashed character I was intending to use in V2.

The figure will be created from the G1.5 character of Rotorstorm

Looks fancy doesn't he? Well the figure i'm using is even worse because i'm essentially restoring a junker in the process. Here's how he looks.

Image

Now I first asked if he should be an Autobot or a Decepticon and what colours to use.

Everyone seemed pretty divided over the faction so in the end I decided to make him a Junkion who is obsessed with wrestling and in particular, the great heels of all time. This has sort of caused him to lean towards the Decepticon side.

Right, so are we up to date? Good. Because i'll have pics of the first update later today. Colours aren't exactly Junkion, but hell, they're close enough for me and i'm liking them so far.

Time to go buy a hacksaw!

It's a Starfleet shuttle!

Image

Yeah, line work is a little messy, but it's not something i've really been good at.

Anyhoo, that's how the colours are currently looking.

For those who own a Rotorstorm, or for those who have looked at the pics you'll see and know that the legs are joined and have to move together, making poseability pretty damn useless.

So I removed that connecting piece (near the knee joint) and you know what? I have absoloutely no idea why it's even there. I would think it's to strengthen up the ratcheting system but it still works fine without it.

AND NOW IT'S TIME FOR A REPAINTING TIP!

When you undertake a repainting project, disassembly is the best. But one of the things you should always do (moreso with junkers) is to clean them. Toothpaste or soap ... doesn't really matter. Give it a good scrubbing. You'll remove any dirt and dust from any moldings as well as residue left over from stickers, plus you're ensuring a clean surface for painting.

I never really thought about it untll now, but isn't it kind of odd that the junions are all made of colour coordinated junk? Do they repaint the parts they use, or do they sit around waiting for one the right colour to turnup?

i think it's more to do with rust and corrosion, and of course every petrolhead society knows red paint makes things go faster!

Legs are done, though they need a little touching up.

Image

Yes, missing the wings/landing pads. Because they need to be 'bashed a little to incorporate the new missiles.

have i got this wrong, or are his missiles going to fire straight up through is rotors i chopper mode? is this some primitive version of teleportation?

He's a Transformer.

Suspend your belief in Earth based logics. (Plus those "wings" can fold under his legs if need be, or the missiles launch then quickly deviate in a direction that doesn't cause self harm)

i think i prefer my version; he teleports by blowing himself to pieces and lauching most of his bits in one direction, where he reforms himself due to his junkion physique

You know, that actually does make sense.

HOORAY FOR IMAGINATION!

I should probably get to work on those wings, or I could keep reading Green Lantern comics ..... :-?

Still some painting to be done but you can see how the modified "wings" look.

Gonna start on attaching the new rotor now ....

Junkion or not, I could swear he's looking more like Gore's colors...

And cause the horse ain't dead enough yet, if yu cut off the missile pods, and reattached them on a screw shaped piece and let them pivot 360 degrees so he can fire front, back down, and up to teleport. beyond that, lookin' good!

The brown is similar yeah. But there's only so many shades of brown that I have access to.

Once he's finished though the amount of orange will break things up, plus i'll probably "dirty" him up like I did Hecatomb.

Quick question for whoever wants to contribute ...

The rotor blade(s), what colour? Light brown, darker brown, redish brown, orange, black, or something else?

dayglow pink like the original!

assuming the main body is going to be the same Gore-brown as his lower legs i'd go with the lighter grey brown as his thighs/wings

I think redish brown would give it a nice rusty junkeon look.
