Rewards

I don't know if there were any rewards for events or milestones here before the reset but I think something like that would be a great incentive.

I remember something abot a Toaster Alt....

Maybe a custom alt for GS for example. The guy was the first to a million and then 2 million and at the rate he’s going will be 3 million before most of the top 40 reach 1 million.
There haven’t been any real big tournaments yet to award anything for but I think special achievements should be rewarded for great accomplishments.

Maybe someone could set up brackets for achievements for specific ranking levels. 50th can't compete with the top 10 but then again the top 10 do deserve some sort of credit for their time put in.

Just an idea.

under glyph we got more alts for winning the staff tournaments, OS gave out permanent access to alts for winning Games, and for people helping run tournaments.

The toaster alt, the one I always wanted, is currently available for bots. Part of the joy of having been awarded alts was that we didn't really have alt rotations so the award alts were like the cool, limited thing you never wanted to reset. Now with alt rotation, a limited edition alt award would have to be like wow.

Award alts are a good thing, im certainly in favour of them being awarded when they are earned, but we have to be sure theyre not just handed out all over the place or they will lose their 'prize' status.

I think that is his his reward. For kicking all of our butts I mean.

I need the hydra alt (for the Lernaean Hydra) and the two headed dog alt (for Orthrus), because for some reason, the Predacons don't seem to have either. Go figure.

Of course, I could edit my alts in the mod-panel, since that seems to be the only interface still working (though I haven't tested it), but that would be cheating. Sort of.

Id never consider doing such a thing Until I get access to the mod panel ;0)

That's not right. Every champion has something to show for being the best. Trophies, medals, cups. It's not just about status but something physical to show for it.

Seems quite visible enough to me.

Save the prizes for tournaments. Giving things out now would be too much like favoritism because it wasn't planned from before the battles resumed.

I agree that there should def be award-levels of some kind. It keeps people active and motivated and improve the game, overall. I like the idea of allowing contest winners/reaching some set XP level, individual robot xp or whatever access to ALL alts for a period of time though. That would be a nice way to provide motivation and at the same time, not diminishing the rareness of custom alts.

(And no, I'm not just saying that because I'm currently in the lead, lol.)

I would not say no, of course, to a custom alt. In the meantime, I'd settle for the CONS getting Soundwave's alt back from the Autobots!!! :-x

i'm not really a fan of handing out alts becuase someone's got XP, that's the whole point of the game, if it's not rewarding enough then why are you playing? fair enough if someone organises a special event, but just for playing the game normally? i think not.

anyway, once OS sorts out the prize alt code and the and someone actually got on the ball and organised a tournie/game/competition with the staff's support i'm fairly sure GS could earn alot of prize alts.

to put this in perspective a grand total of 12 prize alts where givin out in the 18 months that the code lived.

Im in two minds about the level based rewards.

It would be nice to be able to reward hard work and dedication, and the idea of having more alts at a higher level is a hypothetical possibility, but the logistics sound like a nightmare. Who would award these alts? How would we keep track of who gets what? What levels should we apply them to?

Id prefer to keep them as tourney prizes as its add a dimension to the game.

As for the Soundwave alt; as soon as im in a position to do so, I will see what can be done.

Seconded.

Whoopdeedoo. Someone made a million xp first. Yay? They have all that xp to invest, THAT is their reward.

Because you start something like rewarding for certain goals, where do you stop? First 100% strafe? First 50% ram? 75% damage in one shot with some gun?

No.

The reward IS xp. Participating in contests however is different, and GS is doing a pretty good job of that in the 'Con forum.

Not enough contests? Then maybe some people other than the usual crew should stand up and organise something.

Of course i'm of the belief there shouldn't always be prizes for contests either, it should be about the fun. Unfortunately some people need "motivation" to enter contests, apparently the thought of beating up opponents and the chance to earn more xp because the missions are more full isn't enough for them.

Just saying ....

personally i've always liked the idea of having prize alts for running contests, and other services to the "community"

I like the idea of prize alts in general. I mean, you look at the alt mode request thread and theres tons and tons of alts in there that have never been put into the game, so many to choose from its not likely that everyone wants the same select few ones. Sure some of them would get selected by quite a few people, but im sure there would be those couple of folks who go for one no one else has because they like it or what.

But i'll agree that awarding alts for XP achieved or level achieved wouldn't be the best way, but not saying it's the worst either. Perhaps something to be added to the team profile or something? Like an achievement board or something similar.

Tourney's i think are the best way to hand them out, but with that you may get lower level folks who won't join to try and get an alt of their choice because they may feel like they don't have a chance to even come close.

Yea, I see the point about XP-Based Alts. I don't think that opening the entire alt base for certain achievments is a horribile idea though either. (as long as it's not a nightmare for the mods or OS)I also agree that actually HAVING tons of XP is reward in and of itself.

However, making a concerted effort to recognize player's achievements isn't a bad idea at all. Perhaps the tourneys are in fact the best way to achieve this.

Slip ran a tournament before reset that I thought was not only fun, but well structured and pitted similarly ranked teams against one another.

In the meantime, I created the HMW Millionaire XP Club In an attempt to recognize individual players' accomplishments. It didn't cost anybody anything, and allows people to celebrate reaching a goal.

What I think might be nice, is if the number of alt modes available for a given bot increased as you leveled up.

I'm not talking about for the person who gets to a level first, I'm talking about for anyone who levels up, whenever they level up. Have like 11 alts available at level 0, and increase 11 alts per level all the way to 121 alts for level 10, with all alts in the game becoming available at level 11.

Would be a great aesthetic incentive to keep leveling.

That's a whole 'nother kettle of of monkeys though. Can't imagine there is an easy way to code that.

Or maybe some system where we actually have the opportunity to 'transcan' new alternate modes into our personal libraries as we work our way up in the game.

I don't know though; I like having access to a lot of alts at the very beginning. It gives me flexibility in building my team from a 'fluff' standpoint.

That would certainly monkey with the alt-mode rotator rules - but it's a good idea. What if a few special alts were made available as you level up (1 or 2) while the lion-share of rotating alts remain unchanged? What also if the alts were different per faction? The ever coveted toaster alt could be available at level 2 for one group and level 5 for another.

Good luck choosing which alts are the rewards and which aren't though.

i do like that idea, but how does it mesh with reseting?

anyway how about this;

level 0 - own cores
level 1 - own commons
level 2 - own rares
level 3 - ally's cores
level 4 - ally's commons
level 5 - ally's rares
level 6 - traditional enemy's cores
level 7 - traditional enemy's commons
level 8 - traditional enemy's rares
level 9 - remaining faction's cores
level 10 - remaining faction's commons
level 11 - remaining faction's rares

with the cons/preds and bot/max being allies, the con/bots and pred/max being traditional enemies.

It's called the high score page. THAT is how you recognise a player's achievements.

I say this with no offense intended, but that's really just more of a bragging thread and will no doubt get boring as more and more people reach that goal.

Plus it'll NEVER be as cool as the 100% & 150% Strafe Clubs. 8)
The 200% Strafe Club was never cool because it only had one member. hehehe

I think it would be easier to code it to base on the total xp than the level because of the aforementioned resetting: You really couldn't take the level 10 or 11 alts, because the tactics take the last two levels upgrades.
And it would be better to make the extra alts faction-specifics
(to think furthermore, how about special [cheaper] alt. classes-with the alts, it could be easy to make the alts belong to specific classes)

Haven't sassed that out 100% yet.

If the upgrade page remains as it is currently, and is never amended to be like the xp calculator, there's not really a problem. The page refreshes every time you raise a stat, so when you raise a stat that puts you up a level, the expanded alt list would appear when the page refreshed. Given, you'd have to wait to choose your alternate mode until that point, so you couldn't raise your level via investments in tactics if you wanted a higher level alt, so there's a problem.

Option #2 is to use the xp based level cap, and have the person's available alts dependent on how much xp they have, but that partially defeats the point.

Option #3 would have the person's available alts based on their team's "average level +/- 1". You can only reset one bot at a time, meaning that measure is more 'resistant to change' than the level of an individual bot, and if the alt list on the upgrade page loaded on the basis of your average level when you first entered the upgrade screen, and didn't change until you left that screen... makes sense in my head but I don't know if it does in reality.

agreed, they really ought to go off the spent XP rather than total xp though

tap psychout and get him to explain the Bloodbanes alt game; it something like; onefaction designates the target faction, and for one week they fight, the winner get's both factions rares for that next week. i can't really recall the specifics but psych should be able to expalin it
