was just wondering what other browser based game people are playing? with all this spare time on your hands while we wait around for either HMW 1 to come back online or HMW 2 to start my brain has been looking for other things to do.

iv been mainly playing mafia wars and farm town on facebook and travian, which are quite good but like HMW take a while to get used to and forever to actually level/build up.

iv also started to beef out my teams bios out.

i was also wondering to help us addicts/ryan out.
1. how much space/resources does HMW use a month ?
2. how much a month would it cost to run an independent server to host those resources in a stand alone mode ?
3. would ryan be willing to sell/hire/loan us the code for HMW ?
4. could we the addicted few be able to run/admin that sites code and the HMW code ?
5. what would the URL be? (have a bit fun with this one guys)

Apparently, a lot.

Too much for a small user base. You'd want to expand the user base, then you'd have to look at funding options etc etc.

Very VERY doubtful.

How many HMW players will disappear when HWM2 comes online? Personally I think the few the proud and Decepticon will dominate HMW2 in the Begining then players like KYAC will arrive and give us a challenge....

I think that depends more on the time frame it takes to get the game rolling again. The biggest way to lose players is for there to be no game available at all.

The longer we wait until V1 is reopened (not currently under consideration) or V2 is opened to the public, we risk people losing interest while pursuing other ways to occupy their time.

I believe we'll see more people don't come back more for that reason than the difference to the game play and design in V2.

I agree with Editor, last time Hmw was down for longer time, we barely got half the players back, and the HMW forums suffered an even greater drop of people.

Taking up my new spare vacant HMW time? Same things, i'm actually getting to play my other games, like Madden and NHL 09. Maybe i'll actually have time to focus on continuing FFXII.

I would actually expect quite a few to come back. If i recall, half the people who didn't return from the last crash, are just taking a break from the game but seem to be interested on returning once V2 hits.

Is it possible to put Heavy Metal War on Facebook or the iPhone as an Application?

Would be awesome wouldn't it? Unfortunately its doubtful, all the database tables are held here and so it wouldnt work anywhere else apart from as a seperate game. As for an iPhone app, same problem.

The best we are likely to get is a phone-friendly interface, but if we do get one of those its not going to be any time soon.
