Well, for the first time in what seems like at least a year, I have a 2 week holiday with no plans. So Im gonna do what I always used to do. Run a tournie.
Here's what is pretty much set in stone(ish):
-Tournie will run from sometime Sunday evening on the 28th Feb until Sunday evening on the 14th March (all times GMT).
-There will be the main tournament, the normal Autobots vs Decepticons, battle for domination, winner is the faction with the most wins (using the normal tournament rules).
-Hopefully the tournament missions Mkall unearthed will be used, to help identification of tournie missions, although it looks like the scoring will remain manual (when last I spoke to Mkall, he was unable to find/fix the code that produces the scoring page). If these cannot be used, it will follow the age old system of every mission # ending in a '0' and a '5'.
-There will also be side games. Bare minimum of the pretty standard top killer league table, perhaps with prizes for both faction's top killers (with the overall top commander getting a slightly better prize if I can organise it). This will only be open to commanders who signed up for it before the start of the tournament, and will count *all* kills made in tournament missions.
-I have also been toying with some form of scalp hunt style minigame, but as yet, am not sure how that will work, any ideas more than welcome.
What I need help with:
-Story, I really have no idea what this should be about, it dosnt need to be as heavy and in-depth as my previous tournies, but it would be nice to have some kind of setting at the very least.
-The second minigame, as Ive already said, I fancy including some form of scalphunt to the tournament. The targets could be other competing commanders or alts that relate to the overall story. Must make sense within the basic story of the Tournie.
-Prizes, with Mkall beign in charge at the moment, it should prove pretty easy to inpliment some prizes (prize alts and money almost certainly, bonus alts for an entire faction certainly, possibly xp, but I'd have to ask him before I could say for sure). Id like to have some alts (5 or 6) that can be awarded to the victorious faction (relevant to the story please), and some sort of prizes for the minigame(s).
Also, of course, helpers to count various bits and bobs are always welcome (although I hope to do a lot of it myself).
So there we go.

I'll likely passively participate (as I don't have the time to dedicate myself properly to a tournament) but give me a couple of days to see if I can work something out for a story. May not be fantastic, but I can probably put together a basic idea before the weekend is out.

If you guys want me to do the auto-tourney counting thing, you'll have to send me mission texts and levels and stuff.
You'll also have to convince the HMW staff that they want to run this, after all I'm just an extension of their wills and desires.

Anything that could be done to automate the scoring would be preferable, as I play so much that I can't imagine having the time to count up all of my kills for special missions. Every half of an hour or so I click to activate any recovered bots and send them into missions. That is my OCD routine now. I am not sure I could sustain the additional overhead of counting the kills for those special missions. I found SPL very time consuming, and that involved manually tracking the performance of only one bot.
I understand if there is no mechanism to auto-score, but I am just saying it would be awesome if it could be done.

With the Tournie code Mkall's unearthed, it will be very easy for everyone to take part (although it was never difficult before). However, the way I have run every minigame I have run involves the commanders posting their claims for kills and scalps (it's looking likely I will be able to lever a small scalp hunt in btw). There is no demand for you to participate in the minigames, but the sheer amount of data I (and any helpers) would have to sift through to record *every* commanders kills and scalp claims should we not demand their claiming them would mean all that other stuff we have to do (eat, go to the toilet, sleep) would have to go on the back burner.

Normally, I'd expect everyone who's taking part in the minigames to officially say as much in the announcement thread in the HMW GD, but frankly it strikes me as a waste of time when they have to post a claims post in the (yet to be posted) Claims thread anyway. So everyone can join in whenever they want, just enter a claims post in the thread when I create it (will be created when the tournie begins), and edit it to add your claims as and when you get them.
Anyway, my next day off is tomorrow, and I intend to get the official rules/announcement out and posted on HMW GD.
Also, those who would like to help with the counting, it isnt an official requirement, but I find it really helps the counting process if everyone has MSN to quickly co-ordinate who dose what and to avoid people doing the same stuff.

The code was tested and shown to work. The code that is missing is the one that produces the page for the public to view. It still produces the counting results for Mkall. That was all posted in the regular forum.

I should have the story and mission texts written some time tonight. Red, do you want me to post the story here or should I PM you with it first?
Also, how feasible is it to have multiple scoring missions. As far as I know, the test run only had 1 mission (the 1-5 mission) but I currently have ideas for missions across several level bands, so it would help to know what kind of design space I have access to.

Yeah, i think they're doing some maintenance or upgrading or something. Was down all day yesterday. And apperently some posts in that time were deleted, cause i could have sworn i replied on this thread.
I'm in too, hopefully this will get me back into HMW more when i'm at the computer and not abusing my PS3 lol. Though i won't be joining til well after it gets underway as i have some gold medal hockey against Canada sunday afternoon.

It was a hard drive crash, Ryan's in the process of restoring from backups but it's a slow process as the site is quite large.
Probably take a few days to bring everything back online.
