Hey, I keep reading that you guys are having issues with the database and the game. I have alot of programming experience and am a DBA. Is there something I can do to help? I would like to be of assistance if I can.

PM Seibertron the site owner, or e-mail him (ryan@seibertron.com) if you don't fear mysteriously vanishing or finding your life becoming extremely busy/complicated.

But he'll probably be looking for someone with experience in PHP programming.

And just take heed of the epic backlash you'll get if you carry out your threat to priorities the arena over the missions....

Infact, that's worth stating for any prospective HMW programmer. We are a loud and grumpy group of individuals. You cannot please us all. At least one of the former programmers utterly failed to heed that fact.

Which one? I thought Glyph did a pretty good job until he got the shaft.

I feel sorry for Glyph. He really had the right temperament for HMW programmer, and Old Man Seibs decided he'd rather ban him. Repeatedly...

I don't mind the non pay or lack of life bit. I have one full time job and a part time contract job. Only issue is that I haven't done PHP programming in 3 or 4 years. I may have to brush up on that before I ask if I can help out.

IIRC, it went like this:
Vir - No idea, he created the game but was before my time.
Glyph - about 2-3 years
Omega Sentinel - far too long
Mkall - adminned in the gap
Omega Sentinel - still too long
Mkall - adminning again
Mogwai Prime - 13 minutes, includes the time it took to eat the pizza.*
Mkall - was adminning until his powers dissappeared. again.

*spot the quote and win ...nothing.

_Anshin_, if you are serious (which would be pretty awesome), email Ryan on ryan@seibertron.con and tell him. he'll want to have a chat with you but by all means go ahead with it. Burn and I can bring you up to speed on the current game, were pretty good at breaking in new programmers these days :)

_Anshin_ If you are completely serious about this, and you can convince Ryan to let you mess with the game, please take a stance that the current game is flawed but working and deal with the problems at hand, and improving what we have instead of working on the pipedream of V2.

Perhaps that way we won't have another programmer spontaneously combust.

Hey!! That was all a misunderstanding, the strippers left once they realised their mistake...

That's not the story I heard.

Oh, and in a drastic and unforeseen turn of events, I wish to bring this thread shuddering back to the point for a second:

Can we make sure (should _anshin_ or someone else should get the job) that the programmer has as little control over the forum as possible. OS's tenure was a f**king disaster as much because he decided to treat the forum and it's posters as if it should be his own personal church, and was rather miffed when it turned out that it wasn't.

Oh and i'd also like to add that if we do end up with a new programmer that said person NOT fire me this time round simply because they "don't like my negative attitude".
It's not a negative attitude if I think I know the game and community better than you and that your ideas WON'T WORK!

Well ****! If I had know that the ability to fire you came along with the job, I would have volunteered to take over programming years ago! Sign me up! :P
