Why Do People...

Why do people stay in levels when they can level up about three level higher? I mean come on there is this guy who has over 500,000 xp and he just sits in level zero waiting for bots with no stats so he can stasis then. It is just annoying for me when I try to fight people that have the same stats as me and then he comes along and ruins everything.
So my question is, why do people do this.

Because some people are chumps.
That player may actually have a plan and/or be trying to do something, like see how high they can get staying in level 0, or trying to get enough to power upgrade to 1 upgrade shy of level 2, where he'll do it the same thing again. It's kind of like the WOW South Park episode where they level up using the weakest creatures.
That said when many are playing the game (for lack of a better word) "properly", this can end up just looking like a style of Griefer, and lacks "sportsmenship" but try PM'ing the player and asking. Who knows, you might get a responce.

I guess I will try that but it just makes me mad every time I see him in a mission.

You seem to forget though that xp is irrelevant. It's the number of upgrades you have.
Level 0 with 500,000? Yeah, he's only harming himself. You can have 0-4 upgrades at level 0, no where near enough to influence a battle. You could have 10 million in xp at level 0 and you could still beat them.
It's all about the number of upgrades.

The game will *eventually* force them to level up, may not be for a while though as ive forgotten what the level caps are (assuming they are even active).
Sad that people do that really though, isn't it? Guess to some winning really is everything, even if it means they are an eternal loser.

Don't the level caps kick in when you reset?
That being said, when I set CATalyst up the other day I was able to stop part way through upgrading and he was still level 2 so maybe they're not working at all.

level caps only come into effect if you reset.
you can have 70million xp on a level 0, but if you ever reset the level caps kick in.
also i think theres a way to cheat around the level caps. i've heard people mention they didnt have enough upgrades but the caps made them higher level, but later it dropped them back to the level that the number of upgrades said they should be

Yep the level caps are all screwy. I was running seastorm alpha (3mil xp) as a level 1 for a few fights upgraded him to level 2 and the level cap kicked in and bumped him to level 3, so current got him running as a high level 3

I did this for a while. Not to stasis other bots, but to take advantage of the CR chamber charges and bank up my energon reserves a bit. Right now I sit in a level till I have enough XP to give me enough upgrade points so that I'm one or two points from the next level.
I asked this same question a while a go (many many moons). I actually got a third response from a person that stated he just liked to see his characters near the top of the level list. No matter what anyone did he would always own that level or come close to it. So I say it may be a pride thing. I know for a while it use to be nice to look at the level High scores and see my teams in the top ten slots. Right now, not a priority as I have turned one squad into rebuilds and one squad as a quick level scheme.

I have 2 lvl 0 characters I could easily level up, but I like to have an even range of levels to play at. I get to play a wider range of players and missions than those who level everyone and only play the same levels over and over.
Am I playing like a chump? I don't think so. At a max of 4 stats at lvl 0 my advantage is nearly none except against the newest players. With Autobot Skyfire Valkyrie at that level as well the level 0 Con's need some help as he is about the toughest 0 you can face.
If I remember about the leveling you can stay in 0 as long as you want, but if you reset or level up you can not regain that 0 status. The other levels all have caps placed on them that will automatically level you after a certain amount of XP gained.

I made the mistake of playing Battle Beasts Gambling and lost about 300 000 energon, ugh...
I might level down or try my luck again, it's strangely addicting but I guess that's why they call it gambling.

I get what you are saying but I hate that he only joins missions that have new bots with no stats.

It takes 5 upgrades to make it to level 1.
From there it takes another 9 upgrades for each level.
So a level 2 with 22 upgrades enters a mission against another level 2 with 15 upgrades. Is that wrong?
Or look at it this way.
A level 2 with 22 ugprades is sitting on 4 million in un-used xp takes on another level 2 with the same amount of upgrades. Who's going to win? (the correct answer is the bot with the better ugprades, but that's a whole different debate)

Noob Question: What does resetting do? I thought it just resets your characters back to Level 0 and removes all Upgrades. Why would that suddenly kick in a level cap?

Well, some people have been playing for a long time. Lets say you have a character that has 1 million XP points. If you reset your character pretty much has 0 upgrades but is classified as a level 1 because the level cap for level 0 is well below the 1 million XP.
Even if you put your character back out without any up grades it has enough XP to be considered level 1. Think of it as a way to encourage you to stick to your characters and level up.
Read back a few posts. Burn stated it better than I did just now.

Alright. I understand now. Thank you very much.
