ROTF Sideswipe Waist Articulation

I've done a little kitbashing in the past, but it's always been cosmetic stuff. As such, I've never really tried any kind of functional modifications. The Deluxe class ROTF Sideswipe could seriously use the ability to turn at the waist, and the figure doesn't look like it would be a problem to add a swivel joint there, but then I refer you to the previous sentence. Has anybody done this to theirs, and/or does anyone see anything that might make this a problem/impossible to do?

Thanks,
Glarryg

I've never thought of it before, and I'd have to take him apart to be certain it'd work, but it looks like you could cut him apart just below the black panel on his waist, then add a couple pieces of sheet styrene to the cavity as bulkheads to attach a ball-and-socket joint (raid any Bandai/Gundam/Evangellion model kit, they're littered with them).

I took a closer look at it, mid-transformation, and it turns out that a lever arm fits into that cavity in car mode. So it would be doable if the figure stays in robot mode, but adding a joint without the filler you described would probably be too flimsy, especially considering how top-heavy Sideswipe is.

Thanks for the idea anyway!

Eh, was worth a shot. Maybe someone else will think of something, now that the idea's out there.

Depending on how much room the lever arm takes up, could you use a rotating ring pair and let the arm take up the space in the middle?
