Do any of you Shapeways artists take commissions?

I have quite a few simple weapons and such that I'd like created for some of my figures and was wondering if any of those talented enough (I am NOT :P) at creating these sorts of things on Shapeways would be willing to design/create some stuff for me for a price (which is negotiable of course and will also all depend on what Shapeways actually charges you to create each piece in question).

I'm particularly interested if anyone is also willing to not only design them, but paint them and ship them to me as well (payment in advance naturally).

Payment would be provided via PayPal.

Depending on how complicated the designs are, I'd be willing to help you with the 3D stuff pro bono.

I can't paint them for you, but I could make the files and put them up on Shapeways at cost.

I'd only ask for permission to include the items in my shop and greedily retain any profits for myself in the future. Not that I've actually put mark-ups on anything yet, but I might some day.

That sounds good. Most of it is pretty simple stuff, mainly just weapons for Beast Wars figures that resemble (more than those included with the figures themselves) the weapons on the show.

Ah, Beast Wars...that might be a little beyond my neophyte abilities. Lots of organic parts in there make for many headaches for a SketchUp noob like me.

Some of the more expert designers might be of greater help in that area.

Yes, some of the weapons have some more organic looking parts (like Cheetor/Tigatron's guns which have 'brains' :P), but for characters like Rattrap and Terrorsaur they should be pretty straightforward and right up your alley.

Just to give you one example, here's Transmetal Rattrap's gun:

Yep, something like that. All it needs is a peg handle the correct size to fit in the Deluxe Transmetal Rattrap's hand (and some paint of course) :).

Here's another image of it (courtesy of TFWiki):

Do you have specific measurements on length? What diameter do you want the handle-peg?

I don't unfortunately. You'll probably need a Transmetal Rattrap figure for reference to the hand hole size and relative scale. I know that his hand holes are quite a bit smaller than an Arms Micron port (which I believe are 5mm, though I could be wrong).

Your Rattrap gun is available for a test print here:http://shpws.me/njaO.

There is always a chance that something in the design will cause a problem in the printer (most likely a wall is too thin or I left a plane on the interior that I should have deleted), in which case Shapeways will contact me to let me know something has to be changed.

Also, you might notice there is a little hole in the back and sides of the gun. Those are so that excess plastic powder can escape after it is printed. (Alternatively, I could have made the gun in two halves that snap together, but I figured a couple of tiny holes were less noticeable than a giant seam or parts not quite fitting together.)

I haven't put any mark up on the item, so that is the cost that Shapeways charges.

I just hope it works okay in real life! Good luck!

OK, so I got the gun today and I must say I'm very impressed. The design and detail is superb and the peg is just the right size for his fist.

Now for the downside. Unfortunately the gun itself is much too large for the figure. He holds it fine but it's not the right scale. In his hand, it looks like a really big rifle when in fact it's just supposed to be a small pistol.

I'm sure I can find a use for this larger version but now I have another favor to ask: Would it be possible to create one that is about 1/2 the size of this one or less (but with the same thickness of the peg/handle) so that it scales with him better?

That should be an easy enough fix...some of the little doodad-type details will have to be adjusted or removed, but the shape of the gun will stay the same.

That works :)

Thanks for going to all the trouble, I really appreciate it. No one seems to be doing any Beast Wars stuff on Shapeways unfortunately so it's awesome to find someone willing to create some of this stuff for me :).

I got the new gun and it is absolutely PERFECT!!! The scale is spot on and I can't thank you enough for taking this project on for me. I'll definitely be commissioning more work from you in the future, I just have to think of what I want next and get some reference images for you.

Thanks again, and to anyone reading this thread and considering getting this gun for your own Transmetal Rattrap, DO IT, it's totally worth the cost and looks great. All you have to do is paint it :D!
