Sky Shadow is definitely up there in contention for TR figure of the year for me too!

TR figure of the year sure, but can he also be THE figure of the year for you? Including all tf toys.
Nope, he's about #6 at the most at the moment

Who do you have beating him, all movie toys?

As for RID, I am a big fan of that Warrior Soundwave and Thermidore (but thats just becaus ehe reuses an awesome mold in great colours).

None of the RiD warriors have done it for me. The cons last year were amazing, but this year it's been pretty meh. Ultra Bee is my RiD figure of the year at the moment.

And at the moment, the order is sort of:
1) Nitro Zeus
2) voyager Megatron
3) Scorn
4) Artfire
5) Hound
6) Sky Shadow
7) MPM Bee
8) Topspin
9) Ultra Bee
10) Laser Prime

Those are the ones that are really sticking out for me at the moment

Power Rangers gushing

Its time for another segment of Power Rangers porn where I show my friends just how fun and wacky these toys can be.

My latest addition is Bull Rider Megazord, a cowboy themed giant mecha

Image

He turns into a ATV with a ram head (well bull head). Reminds me of a fisher price toy I had as a kid.

Image

Now he can be combined with the other megazord in this line for an Ultra Mode. And while it looks dumb as ****, its still fun to build up. I really like how the hands are formed using those big atv wheels as wrist gauntlets. The cool thing about this particular line is that any figure can pilot the giant mecha (in either form). An action figure can ride the ATV and then be in the center tummy cockpit of the ultra mode.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

And all Power Rangers toys since 2010 are compatible with eachother, meaning that I can interchange their arms or legs (depending on the figure) to make my own zord.

So here is bullrider megazord with arms from the dino charge line.

Image

Image

These arent high end toys in the least and the parts count is a joke when compared to TFs but you get a TF leader sized mecha for 30$ that gives you the same cross compatibility fun that we are currently enjoying in the TF lines. So ver little complexity but that means you can spend 100% of your time on just the fun part of switching things around.

Ok, so I got 2 new additions in terms of giant mecha recently. The latest Megazord and a KO of Diabattles.

I will start with the Megazord and then go to Dia Battles. The Megazord is great. for $20 USD I got 6 zords with nice painted details. They have 0 articulation and are all basically small bricks but they are cute and look good (except the turtle). They are a falcon, a piranha, a dragon, a wolf, a panda and a turtle. The dragon and panda are my faourites, they look close enough to the animals they are emulating that my 2 year old could tell what they were (well she said Dinosaur for the Dragon, I say close enough). The bird looks great but cant really stand properly on its own.

The all combine to make a Megazord who can shoot tiny rangers from his stomach. He looks great!
And while he doesnt really have any combinations (aside from this monstrosity) the require taking him apart and combining him with someone else, he does have the standard zord builder system. So you can swap out stuff and have fun.

What I think is super cool, is the added functionality to the dragon zord which lets you have a ranger ride it ;)^ And it rolls.

Ok so here was the quick review on the quality for this diabattles I posted in the haul thread:

As for a quick review of the KO, well the plastic is not great. It feels brittle and the cuts arent straight. Also, I do not know if this is the same with the original fgure but those metal stickers dont do anything. The magnetic feet on the little guys do not adhere to them. There is also stress issue, as in certain things take much more force than they should. And some cockpit wndows are loose. Also, the motor for the revealing head gimmick gets stuck. But aside from that, its alright.

As for the toy itself, I do find him smaller than I expected. The robot mode is cool though and I went through all the possible modes tonight to see how they compared. In short, the robot mode is truly the main mod here and everything feels secondary.

In long (please reffer to this pictorial of Cobotron to see which modes I am referenceing https://www.seibertron.com/transformers ... -v2/35531/)...

Battles 01, 02, and 03: they work fine as sci fi vehicles but still have a rather odd look. And for me it would make more sense if Battles 03 had the cockpit facing the other way (only Cobotron will understand what I mean). I do love the motorcycle storage though, probably my favourite part of the entire set, its just really well done and cool. I do wish there were wheels though.

Robot mode: The best mode. Looks great. The joints are a bit stiff but we will seewhat i can do for posing later. And I am glad the remaining pieces can still form something. Well done.

Scramble mode: not great. Basically the equivalent of Optimal Optimus' flight mode without the impressive wingspan.

Manual mode: better than scramble mode as far as a mode that the robot mode can covnert to without partsforming, but still not my thing. It looks like Ed 209 in a parade.

Battle Triser: Scond best mode. Its cool, like a megaspaceship. The abundance of cockpits is a bit much but its cool that every little pilot can have a seat. And I am glad to finally make use of the leg connect ports on the robot mode backpack.

Hopper/crawler: its just the manual mode withough the misile arms and no backpack. Wont be going back to it I think.

Glider mode: This one is bonkers. Its basically a headless robot mode but to get there they actually have to go through a buch of different connections. I did not go through this mode physically and I dont think I ever will. The end result is laughable (sorry Cobo, I realize this is your favourite mode)

Fortress mode: its basically a battle triser light. Not bad though since you still get a compltet Battles 01 to hang out next to it.

An absolutely amazing thing about this though is that I now have pilots for my G1 toys, espeially my ratchet :KREMZEEK:

Well, you can't win 'em all Billy. it sounds like you did have some fun with him.
Also sounds like the quality is what one would expect from a KO. Even if it is a $60 KO.

Agreed some of the modes are pretty abstract at best. I realize in my review I stated that Glide was my favorite mode, but I should have specified that it's second to, of course robot mode. Robot is definitely my favorite. But I like the sub-human form of glide. It's just weird and I like weird.

Glad you tried him out though, and that you didn't have to do it at full oficial price.
The added Powered Suit is a nice value add though, no? Have you tried connecting him into the larger robot?

Whaaaaaa? I didnt know that. How does he stay on and in which configuration? Is it glide or robot?

And yes, the added suit was pretty cool. Have you given us your thoughts on the latest edition to the Diaclone reboot in the collectotron yet?

Also, quick question, what is the use of being able to unclip the shoulders and have the arms slide out from the front?

Glide, but a tad different. I just fiddled it from a picture in n the Powered Suit catalog.

I little. Start here, scroll down, turn the page.

It's a transformation gimmick. Battles-01 and Battles-02 are often combined together for different modes. When connected they create a channel that you can use to slide the arms back and forth, for different positions, in different modes.

Image
Arms slid back in 02 for Manual Mode.

Image
Arms slid into 01 for Battle Triser.

Yes, its a fair price. Basically its the price of a leader figure in Canada with taxes. So comparing it to Leader Overlord, I guess its similar to what i am getting for value (considering I find Overlord of higher quality than this KO's plastic).

And yes, bought it off Ali. I like Ali, so far everything worked out. Things have come in damaged or missing stuff, but I am always compensated fairly.

Cool cool, that's what I wanted to hear.

About the KO Diaclone toy, how do you find it now that you have t in hand? Will you get big Powered too when they make it a KO?

Ok, so I realized I dont have that many MP pre movie autobots. I guess its because I only get one toy per mold so far. But this is till a nice shot:

Sorry, I don't have it. I meant my other transactions with Ali. Still on the fence with the DiaKOnes. Not sure if that is a rabbit hole I want to dive into yet. I just wanted to hear that the juice was worth the squeeze so I can make an informed decision. So thanks ;)^

I don't have that many MPs either, but I have been filling out the ranks with 3P figures because I'm not a fan of where the MP line aesthetics are going. Recently I've added MMC Backdraft, TFC Toys Ironwill (more features here) and even though he's a bastard TF I nabbed XTransbots Hoss. I still need to open and photograph Omnigonix Spinout. Pics and thoughts in all links, but the TL;DR version is that none are perfect (except Backdraft) but all fit my bill just right. I am aware of the issues with Spinout and prepared to work with them.

Ok, so here is today's haul (it's half of the total purchase I made from a local fellow colelctor, so more to come).

Those giant boxes are giant robots from the 70s Gaikin show by Toei (the same people who did Mazinger). Actually, they are from the 2005 revival, and since bandai abandoned making a combining toy, they sold their designs to Most Wanted, who used those designs to make these 3 massive toys.
Here are some size comparisons.

Image

Image

Image

Here is Gaiking. He has launching fists. The part I like a lot is the combining axe and shield which makes a cool result. The skulls on the chests of each robot is also articulated. so their can open their mouths and is great for goofing around.

Image

Image

Image

Raiking is top heavy, big time. But it makes for a cool design and he is able to stand on his own. But I sure as **** will have him leaning on an edge if ever I display him on a shelf.

Image

Image

Image

Balking has really cool arms. They are made of a bunch of segments that can go either way. All his fingers are guns, plus he has two extra cannons on the back (which are the bottom of twin battle axes).

Image

Image

They you can dismantle them all and build Gaiking the Great, which is my favourite part. I love the wingspan (which is has a super simple but smart transformation from Raiking's wings you saw on top)

Image

Image

Image

What to do with these extra left over parts?

Image

Lets mix em up!

Image

There is of course way more going on than I showed. Each robot is made up of 3 parts, but each of those parts is its own thing in the show. Like the arms and waist are a smaller spaceship and then 3 parts have to transform and combine, a lot like voltron (they do the same motion of flying into the air and then transforming and combining). There are specific parts and transformations just for those modes. None of that is pictured (because I dont really care much, I just get to the punchline). But its cool that you can literally recreate everything you see on the show with these.

That thing looks AWESOME! And it's so freaking HUGE!!!

I like that the rebooted design still feels classic, while being new.
So how is the quality? Does it have that same feel as Bandai toys? Is the plastic quality good?
Does it have any diecast?

Really cool. It's days like this I wish we were next door neighbors.

Yeah, it would be great to be neighbours. And if that were the case, I would have even let you get them for yourself and I would come over to try them out.

And the plastic is ok, but feels a bit off on some bits. It feels very similar to third party toys I have handled before, like that KO OS Feral Rex. Like the wings are made of a very light but very sturdy plastic.

I guess the Thunderzord from Bandai of America would be a good similarity too. No diecast though.

I feel the design is super old school and didnt change much, but the animation technology has made the lines sharper, especially when it comes to lighting effects and conveying colour (like the gold).
