Interesting. I will definitely keep an eye on this. I was seriously considering the Reprolabels set for this guy...

I'm surprised no one has teased an orange barrel yet, I thought I would have had multiple ones to choose from by now... Dr. Wu for starters.

I don't want to paint mine, so I'm looking forward to this if it is real.

If this upgrade sees release, the chance of me buying Maniaking goes up to 50/50.

What shocks me is they dont want to tackle the wrist swivel issue everyone was complaining about. I will buy it just for the proper cannon. Not sure about the new head, and I definitely wont be using the one with the BJ mouth.

UT Put too many metal bars pins in the forearms and biceps arms assembly. The only way to get those out is using a power drill with a small drill hole bit and a lot of skill. So it might be harder or impossible for regular joes to take apart the forearms and pop out the old hands to put newer ones in.

I was thinking entirely new arms that could be attached by the shoulder where the screws are. If they can get a perfect match for the purple plastic, why not just create a slightly modified arm transformation ? Im sure they can create a way to fold it up somehow and give it a similar look in cannon mode.

I agree with you here. The arms, as a whole, are replaceable. They just stick out at the end of cannon mode, so there's nothing to prevent someone from making better arms with all the articulation one would want from the figure.

Are you serious?

3rd parties have never created a whole pair of replacents arms for a Transformers toy. That have the old arms come off and the newer 3rd party arms attach at the toys shoulder joints. It's too costly and hard to accomplish. The price they'd ask they know buyers could never afford. Mania King is too big and complex of a toy to attempt this.

SXS, Crazydevy and now Renderform have made improvements for 3rd party figures. Assuming you own Mania King, Transform him into a cannon and see how the arms dont really matter for the rest of the transformation. They can easily be replaced and are connected by screws.

I dont think it would take a rocket scientist to design new arms. Im thinking more like $30-40. And I would buy it.

I would rather skip the head and waist plate and just take that orange barrel.

Yes and no. A 3rd party company only created one replacement arm for Rotf Leader scale Megatron. It was a replacement arm for the more poseable skinny arm. The asking price was around $30 to $40.

Had this 3rd party attempted to do both arms for ROTF Leader Megatron. The asking price would have been around $60 to $80.

Their is not that many on-line fans that I know of. Who are willing to pay $60 to $80 for a pair of replacements arms for ROTF Megatron or Mania King. Especially considering ROFT Megatron only cost $40. While Mania King cost $120 then add $80 for replacement arms that totals $200 for Mania king.

If you're going to argue that 3rd Parties making arms is unreasonable, just, please, admit you're wrong when you're proven wrong. The price is a completely separate issue, and one that is based entirely on speculation right now.

I said in my reply creating a pair of replacements arms has never been done before. It hasn't, That Replacement arm for ROTF Megatron is not a pair, It's only one arm.

T - if you're arguing over the semantics of your statement regarding "a pair of arms", and that no other company has done that yet...

-weapons
-head replacements
-body armor (City Commander and Protector)
-additional add-ons
-full figures

These are all items which companies have already made, it's highly possible that one company could feasibly create a pair of replacement arms for a figure and sell them at a decent price. What that price is would be pure speculation right now, but I don't agree with your statement that it would be "too costly and hard".

So, can we just put this to rest and discuss whether or not this particular upgrade is worth it or not? I'm still trying to budget picking up Maniaking, so I don't know if I'd want to upgrade it or not yet. Hopefully I won't have to wait much longer to buy him.

Man, if these guys or anyone made a set of replacement arms with balljointed forearms/wrists for Maniaking I'd totally get one, especially after having seen this cannon and head upgrade set. As it stands though, these add-ons alone are not enough to persuade me to buy UT's not-Galvatron. Those arms just bug me too much.

On second thought, I have literally no use for this set at all.

The Reprolabels set does such a nice job, and I have no idea what the waist piece is for, really. The head looks G1, but so does the one that comes with the figure. These 3rd party pieces can't be exacting to the original designs, that's begging for trouble, but this is as close as you can get.

Heck, Hasbro doesn't even get close to the G1 designs on a lot of their figures. Generations Rattrap and Tankor are about the closest to the animation models as they've gotten in like, ever. Oh, I should include Rhinox in there as well.
