I would be interested in this style of Lio Convoy.

Time to wait and see ...

Indeed. While I have a perfectly acceptable Lio Convoy (I still wonder why he wasn't "Leo" and the wiki article probably explains why, so I'll go read that) I really liked Warden. I'll keep my eye on this...

It has to do with how vowels are sounded in Japanese. Japanese vowels make strict sounds unlike English vowels. You need to use an "i" vowel to get it to make it sound like lee-oh, where as the "e" vowel would make his name sound more like leh-oh.

I'm totally in for this. I hope PE still plans on doing their Cybertronian Big Convoy as well.

Also, a Cybertronian Magmatron composed of a combining tank, jet and submarine would be epic (modeled after his appearance in the IDW series prior to taking on his beast mode(s).

:BANG_HEAD: After all this time, Their still showing early renders.

Not enough of anything to judge it or decide if I want it or not.

Saw nothing wrong with the Beast Wars II Lio Convoy toy. This PE Version is going to have to be above and beyond to get me to buy it.

If PE wants my money for this, Then it's got to be the same scale or bigger than the 1998 Takara version. The Takara Lio Convoy was a big Eight inch Ultra sized Robot and Lion mode. If this is way smaller than the 1998 Version, Then no thanks.

Showing early renders is the smart thing for PE to do when gauging interest for a product. They are not Hasbro/Takara, every step PE takes on the design path of 1 toy will cost them significantly more and take longer just to get to that next step. It wouldn't be smart of them to stay quiet about a product until they get to a prototype stage to then find out there is zero interest in the product. Sure it's frustrating as a fan but in the same amount of time it takes PE to get to a final production sample, Hasbro/Takara will have released another 4 versions of the same characters (excuse the slight exaggeration but they could if they wanted to) with a few rarities added on top to keep the fandom sweet.

PE showed their first early render for this over a year ago. Now, a year later and still showing early renders is just lame.

Between Perfect Effect and Toyworld's penchant for awesome concepts all ultimately getting screwed in the a** by their bizarre MO's (PE's Parts forming and TW's mushy/energon-y sculpts) I'd say this is another disappointment in the making. >:oP

Headsculpt and overall body proportions makes him look kinda villainy, I still prefer the rounder, Zoidish look of the 1st teaser art. But, I've always wanted an updated Leo, so the beast mode is the deciding factor for me to splurge on this.
:-?

Unless it's leader scale and cost under $115, Then I'll consider buying it.

Don't need this to be smaller or the same scale as the 1998 toy.

Out of all the HasTak toys that need a 3rd party update, Don't think Lio Convoy is one of them. As it was already fully articulated. Had high sculpt, pretty colors, details and gimmicks that didn't get in the way of anything.

I suspect you'll be disappointed then. PE's never gone that large, and if they were to do so, it would be rather expensive given their previous price model.

Personally, I'm not too interested in this venture. I'm fine with my BW figs as they are.

If that the case, Then i'm not interested either. Don't need a 3rd party Lio Convoy that is smaller in scale or a similar scale to the 1998 toy.

Creating a 3rd party Lio convoy toy seems wasteful. As the original 1998 toy is perfection. It's a big Eight inch Ultra scale. Fully articulated, highly sculpted, Pretty in sculpt. Has gimmicks that didn't ruin anything.

What PE are making is a toy representing the pre-Earth/Cybertronian body of Lio Convoy as seen in the comics:
Image
For those of us who collect Beast Wars, including the die-hards who also collect their pre-Earth/pre-Beast forms, this definitely fills a niche no matter the size or articulation.

As awesome as Lio Convoy is (and as arguably superior his smaller Robotmasters counterpart is with its superior proportions and better paint apps, especially the DVD version), I can't buy 2 of them and put them on my shelf to represent his standard/Beast/Earth self and his Cybertronian self, so a new mold is needed.

The same goes for Big Convoy and Magmatron (I hope they're still doing Big Convoy and I pray they or someone does a Magmatron):

In the IDW Beast Wars comics, Those are their post bodies not their Pre bodies. The IDW BW comics takes place on Cybertron after the ending events of the Beast Wars Neo cartoon series.

Eh, are you certain about that? I thought that in the IDW comics they simply integrated the characters into the fiction but didn't acknowledge the actual Japanese series/continuities the characters originally came from (i.e. Beast Wars II and Beast Wars NEO never happened in the IDW-verse).

Don't like RM Lio, Think the Lion face is uglier than the 1998 Lio lion Face. don't like the More Simplified Sculpt, Fewer details and less gimmicks on RM Lio. The RM toy is small and not even Deluxe scale.

PE updates at TFCon this weekend with info on Leonidas with the Lion beast Mode pic. http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transform ... oy-13.html

Love the sleek, new age, high sculpting details this toy has in both modes.

I'm not going to lie, Scale and price will play roles whether I decide to buy this or not. Don't need anymore deluxe or voyager scaled Lion-bot toys. as HasTak has already made too many and more than covered the market. Need for this to be Eight inch Ultra or Leader scale and cost under $130.

Heh, I still very much prefer the first teaser with the Zoidish look. The new look doesn't exactly reminds me of Leo Prime, but a decepticon lion transformer.

Eek, yeah, agreed. What the hell is going on there with the mid-section? It gets all narrow and weird, completely throwing off the beast mode proportions. Come on PE, this one should be easy to get right even if you only throw a couple of fold away panels on the sides to fill it in. That stubby face/snout and snarly fangs are too evil looking too. If the bot mode lives up to the previous renders I'll still get him, but if the new lion mode translates into similar modifications of the bot mode and the new bot mode looks as bad, then I'm probably out unless the final product in full color works miracles.

I would imagine that (hopefully) this is just the innerframe (like a DMK) and that with PE's specialty of doing parts forming he'll have all that cool zoid-armoring filling up all that nakedness. I can't see how this new aesthetic would work with their similarly teased BigConvoy.
