Hi all, I know I'm very late to the party here but does anyone know of any retailers that are still selling this. I've tried all the usual suspects but to no avail!

Good luck finding it, it is a great set. Best part, I'd actually say, is the extra articulation added to the wings! I rather wish that the company that made this had also put out a set with new wing joints & weapons for at least Skywarp, Thundercracker, and maybe Thrust. (I suppose Ramjet and Dirge's wings, attaching differently as they do, would not need the new joint.)

That added wing articulation broke on me. Twice over. Was pretty frustrating, actually. It was a neat idea, but the material just isn't that great.

I will admit it is some small parts, so I am not entirely surprised at the possibility of that happening. I suppose, at least, you had the option of re-installing the original wing joints, so it isn't as if you were left with a Starscream whose wings were snapped off. Is the cape still usable with the stock wing joints, or do the wings get in the way? I guess you still at least have the shoulder pads and the crown, but the cape is rather needed to help sell the look.

Anyway, I guess either I got lucky, or you were rather unlucky. Anyone else out there with this set? If so, how have your wing joints held out?

Finally, just for the heck of it... This thread needs at least one pic! I don't (currently) have any solo shots of Starscream in his gear, but here's a group shot:

Image

A wonderfully anachronistic set-up, that picture. Starscream, in his coronation gear, but surrounded by Season One fellows... Including Megatron! And including a second Megatron for him to hold! Starscream better be careful, least Megatron start getting ideas that Starscream might want to replace him or something...

I'm not down on the set. Just those wing pieces. Anyway, it's just probably me and my good luck in breaking them.

Actually, there's a guy on TFW who says he accepts printing requests .... I wonder if he'd be down to make new wing pieces ...

I have the same set up with my own Screamer. In front of a Megatron (Hegemon) while holding a Megatron gun! And with the Dr. Wu Null Rays (they work just fine with the set).

I even made a Leader-1 using the head and parts from Gen Dirge and Universe Screamer. I made another with a second set, but I sent that one to a customizer who's never gotten back to me about it (oh well).

I didn't think you were down on the whole set, so no worries. So, does the cape still work with the normal wing joints, then?

Gauntlet101010 wrote:Actually, there's a guy on TFW who says he accepts printing requests .... I wonder if he'd be down to make new wing pieces ...

Are you talking about MegaMoonMan? I bought some of his Metroplex bits & pieces, specifically some ramp extensions and his new knees. They came out quite nice. But those are large, solid chunks. Personally, I'd be weary of 3D printing for something small and delicate. (I could just be being paranoid, mind you. Perhaps someone with more experience could advise better.)

Gauntlet101010 wrote:I have the same set up with my own Screamer. In front of a Megatron (Hegemon) while holding a Megatron gun! And with the Dr. Wu Null Rays (they work just fine with the set).

Yeah, if I had two Starscreams (Well, technically, I do! But I'm not counting a Legends Class one in this context!) I'd put sans coronation gear in the pre-movie display, and one with the gear in the movie/post-movie display. But with only one Starscream, he gets stuck with his pre-movie fellows, but just gets to look fabulous while doing so!

Oh yeah, I forgot it came with that head! Of course, it is for figure moders with much more skill and ambition then myself! Still, with the head and the wings that can fold back (if you have unbroken new wing joints!) I can see the possibility for a really good Starscream to Leader-1 mod.

Now that I am thinking about it, I can see the disembodied Leader-1 head sitting on one of my shelves, randomly just hanging out under the nose of my VE-1 Super Ostrich Valkyrie, staring at me...

For printing, it depends on the durability, I guess. Maybe could redesign it slightly or rethink it a bit. I dunno, though, I'm over the whole "folded wings" thing.

Anyhow, yeah it totally works without the folded wings. What it doesn't work on? The KO Seekers. Something about the body moulding is off just enough that the crown just doesn't fit on the head.

I don't have enough room for many different display options, so I just throw some of my favorites and more important character together.

Actually does anyone know of any 3d printed sets of this, the original one is proving rather tricky to find!

No, but you are giving me some ideas on making a little money... 8)

Have you checked out Shapeways? I haven't looked myself, but I've heard they have a lot of stuff there...

A few days ago, I searched amazon, Ebay and other import sites for you. Think TFsource had it listed with a pic but it was sold out.

Here's a idea, How about create your own Coronation upgrade set. All you gotta do is find another toy with a kings crown. Find a super hero toy with a cloth or plastic cape. Maybe use some Gundam model parts to create shoulder armor and other stuff.

Maybe ask around the buy/sell forums here and TFW. Since Raptor Starscream is all the rage, someone may be willing to part with their coronation set.

Now that is a very good idea,I might just have somethig knocking about at home that would work for the shoulder pads, thanks.

Managed to snag an incomplete set with Universe Starscream off eBay for £13!

Image

No null rays and only one custom hinge, not a bad deal considering!

If you're happy, awesome! I suppose that is a good price indeed, especially if it included the Starscream.

But... no null rays? At all? Not the originals or the new ones that came with the coronation set? That kind of sucks! Null rays are such a part of the G1 Starscream character's look, that I'd have a hard time being able to enjoy a toy based on him that was missing them. (Even during his coronation, he still wore them.)

I suppose there are other null ray options, though, so if this bothers you as it would me, I'm sure you can find a solution. (Hopefully one compatible with the coronation set's shoulder pads!) Given the scarcity of the coronation set, I suppose it was worth snapping up even this incomplete set while you had the chance.

Hope you enjoy it!

Edit: Ah, I see Gauntlet101010 made a null ray suggestion while I was writing my post. Awesome!

Wasn't too miffed buy the lack of null rays as I plan to kitbash the set a little to fit FoC Starscream, so I'll just use the weapons he came with.

I know you've already made the purchase on a partial set, so it isn't as if you need convincing or anything... But if you'd like to see my detailed thoughts on this set (along with a plethora of pictures) I just wrote a review for my website! You can find links to the review in this thread.

Thanks for the link, a really informative review! Can't wait for my set to arrive, especially seeing as Foc Starscream arrived in the post this morning.

Classics Starscreams Coronation upgrade fits FoC Starscream very well indeed!

I actually think the set looks better on the FoC figure than on the Classics version.
