"G1 accurate" is such a vauge term. It doesnt specify whether its vintage toy accurate or cartoon accurate. And if youre talking Headmasters cartoons, you often need to go further and specify American or Japanese cartoons since the artists drew them different. Theyre all considered "G1".

I wouldn't say they do cause we knew that it's coming, and the homage different things right? It's not a version 2 or anything like that. just my opinions feel free to disagree. :]

I don't agree. Maybe it's kinda similar, but right at the start we knew there would be two versions. This is very different when you don't know a "truer" version is coming out much, much later.

I mean ... how is it not a version 2?

I think we're arguing the same point if you mean FP dinobots don't count? I'm a little confused.

Well ... there's the old CHMS Sunstorm. They tried making the yellow version first and then made an orange version after people complained.

Actually, the FP Swindle and Blastoff were inspired by the Takara United re-release of Energon Bruticus Maximus. So it kind of counts and it kind of doesnt. It wasn't an intentional "lets do a crappy version first then sell a better repaint later" scenario. It complimented Takaras more VINTAGE G1 TOY accurate colors and was well revered by fans who missed out and scalpers took some well deserved lube to the rear. ;)

Also I own the 4 yellow CHMS Sunstorms. (2 free from KO Toys because it suffered from Gold Plastic Syndrome) I had broken tail fins and cracked shoulders on 2 and have never transformed the replacements. The orange version was made of a much higher quality plastic, while giving fans a proper Sunstorm with white (even Funpub couldnt pull that off) So I would say CHMS Sunstorm does indeed count. after all, his is the "Unofficial Transformers, 3rd Party and KO Toys" section. :D

And also still wanting to know when you say "not G1 enough" are you referring to G1 American cartoon accuracy, G1 Japanese cartoon accuracy, G1 vintage toy accuracy, or G1 marvel Comic accuracy ? It's all technically "G1" but fan preference varies by what they had a connection to as a kid. For me it was the the American cartoon. I always looked at my vintage figures and wished they could be painted more like the animation.

Also dont forget to add these to your list:

KFC's Steeljaw (Vintage version)

Renderforms re-release of "Pax" head for Toyworld Orion with yellow eyes (vintage toy accurate)

Renderforms re-release of his Darkwing head with better sculpt (technically not a repaint but pissed everyone off who bought the first version - not even a discount offered for those buyers

This list is just a simple list of 2nd run figures that a Third Party company offered that is more or less the same as the first figure with improvements, that are more accurate (color, deco, ect.) rather it be to the original toy it's homaging or Cartoon Animation, that would cause some fans to feel like they were screwed from buying the first one, causing one to decide if they should "double dip". It is fine if you feel the first is superior or the second is not different enough.
And like all of these releases of course it's good for the people who didn't get the first version and now has a chance to pick this up.

Also I would like to take KOs out of this list.

So is there anymore?

Personally not acknowledging KO's doesn't erase their existence. I had over $100 invested in that Sunstorm fiasco and for some collectors it was very real.

Do you have any links to this stuff? I've never even heard of a lot of them

I'm not saying KOs aren't real or that they don't exist. I just separate the two.

I think Renderform came out with a significantly improved ... I wanna say Darkwind (the Silverbolt repaint) head.

We may have gotten all the figures here. Maybe Maketoys Giant deserves a special mention for coming out with the flawed Yellow set first (advertised as a limited edition which turned out to be BS) only to follow it up with the improved green set (although we were told the green set was coming).

If we're looking at improved figures I hear the black Sonicron fixed many of the problems from the original blue run.

Yea I remember the Maketoys Giant thing! but we always knew the green one is coming, which many probably waited for (if they want the green one).

LOL at Sonicron, once you got the first one did anyone really go back for the black version? (I didn't even know they did a black one)

I'll add Renderform Darkwind head to the list.

I know this thread is really dedicated to throwing 3rd parties under the bus for enticing fans to double dip and often appears to be done on purpose. But I want to point out that Takara are the original perpetrators of this questionable practice. And they were doing it long before 3rd parties were making full blown figures. The old excuse use to be its for the “Asian Market” that targeted a group of Japanese adults deemed to be the most hardcore G1 fans worthy of the most G1 accurate decos. With the expansion of online sales, decrease in physical toy/hobby shops, and the big Western boom for the franchise, the “Asian Market” is a thing of the past. It has been replaced by the “Collector’s Market”. What country these collectors live in and how they obtain their collectibles is irrelevant nowadays. The true “Asian Market” for Transformers is the products that transform into things Western collectors generally think are too goofy such as video game consoles, teddy bears, Disney characters, pens, memory sticks, etc. But back to what I was saying, Takara is the original perpetrator of abusing the G1 repaints to gain profit from double dippers. I honestly believe Hasbro does less G1 accurate decos on purpose to justify Takara’s existence. Did the Hasbro version of Ultra Class Silverbolt with the grey plastic even need to exist? The Takara version featured the same amount of paint apps debunking the cost argument. Takara just used the right colors of plastic. If the factory had just done one huge run of the figure in Takara’s colors to sell worldwide, would anyone have complained? Would the Japanese based collectors cry that they weren’t getting special versions? I don’t think they would. The only greedy people are the ones that produce the figures.

Completely agree. Takara is the worst at making you double dip. I've replaced more Hasbro Classics figures with the "more G1 accurate" Takara version more times than I can count.

But this is a third party forum so yea focus will be on third parties.

Well ... I'm not sure it's "more G1", but City Commander itself got a version 2 with a more easily removable face, shoulder missile launchers and (which makes this relevant) sculpting to allow them to be attached to their proper place in vehicle mode. Owners of V1 Magnus (like me) have to content ourselves with PE's backpack, which gives you this functionality.
