D'ya think we should report this to eBay so they can take the listing down? I mean, someone should really be doing something to fight the KO plague.

Why would you do such a thing ?

You often post about not being able to afford certain figures. High quality KO's give people of lesser income an oppurtunity to own nice figures. You should be praising these guys. High quality KO's rock ! ;)^

I tell you why I'd do such a thing: because KOs, high-quality or not, are the illegitimate spawn of blatant theft, and could very well be the death of actual MPs.

Sure I can't afford most MPs at the moment, but I'm not going to actively harm HasTak by buying a cheap knockoff instead of the real thing- especially when said cheap knockoff was created by stealing Takara's hard work and duplicating it. I'll just wait until I have the money to buy the real deal. This isn't like with old anime that never got a full uncensored English release, or the original producers/licensors have long since gone bust- these are products that are being designed, produced and released as we speak, and that take a lot of work and care to make just right. If people keep buying KOs instead of the real thing, eventually Takara is going to decide that there's no point in making them anymore because they aren't selling, and there will be no more MP Transformers (and by extension no more KO MPs either).

So I'll tell you why I'd do such a thing. Because I have standards and I'm not a dirty thief.

Agreed.

My concern is that TakTom will stop making Masterpieces as well, and watching KO after KO come out is maddening. Also, when folks in Masterpiece threads state they'll wait for the inevitable KO whenever a new MP is announced, that's a real problem.

I could tolerate KOs with non official paint jobs, hell, I'd love to see Exhaust in RID Vehicon colors, but exact copies right down to the packaging is a big no no in my book.

And this disincentivizes Tomy from making even more. As previously mentioned, if out of "print", kind of okay as I did own 2 KOs of G1 but if currently in stock.....

Well that’s a very noble way of thinking. But you’re just spiting yourself. The truth is KO’s don’t hurt Hasbro and definitely don’t jeopardize the future of the MP line. Long before the KO guys get their hands on a MP figure and begin the reverse molding process, the originals have already been sold to fans and retailers worldwide. Hasbro already got their money. Anyone who waited for the KO obviously had no intention of buying the real thing, therefore those KO sales did not cost Hasbro any lost revenue. It’s the same concept in the movie industry. Bootleg DVD’s don’t hurt them. It’s all about the box office run and the hundreds of millions it makes. The DVD sales are just sloppy seconds and are the equivalent of a repaint in the Transformers world. By the time you learn of the KO’s existence, Hasbro is already in the mid stages of designing their next MP figure. If anything, KO’s hurt the retailers like BBTS and TF Source a lot more than Hasbro. They’re the ones who get stuck with the extra stock that they bought in bulk quantities from Hasbro. Once again, Hasbro already got their money. And while you valiantly defend Hasbro’s corporate interests, Mr. Hasbro CEO himself sits inside his mansion dining on caviar and sipping Dom Perignon. He doesn’t give a crap about you or me, what we buy or don’t buy. He doesn’t give a crap because he already got his money. So keep defending him. Keep patting other people on the back for agreeing with you. But at the end of the day, Mr. Hasbro will be playing with his real Lamborghini and could care less if you ever get to own an MP Sideswipe. At least the KO guys care enough to make it possible, even if it is all in the name of making money. Something is better than nothing.

I just wanted to debate this portion of the quote. First off, the KOs could hurt Hasbro, because the KOs have been coming out pretty soon after the Takara version is released. Do we even know when Hasbro is planning to release MP Wheeljack (or even Lambor/Sideswipe)? Because the KO would likely come out before then. To be fair about this, I will concede that Hasbro loses out MORE from waiting such a long time to release their next MP from the Takara release. I had MP Prowl in hand for over a year and ultimately about $25 less than what Hasbro/Toys R Us was asking for.

I do like your analogy to the movie industry, but ultimately KOs of current product does affect someone's bottom line. I would rather see competitive pricing and release dates for MPs than resort to straight KOs. MP-11SW, there's simply NO good reason why you are going for $200. MP cars should be released by Hasbro for $40 - 60. Greed, stupidity, or both are contributing to the higher pricing.

I wonder how the KO quality holds up? I've heard the Ratbat mold lacks certain paint apps.

If the KO gets the Alitalia stripes right, now that would be a neat feat!
